  2. We have already learned two ways to make the /ī/ sound so far. Let's review. When a word ends with a magic e the i in the middle of the syllable says its own name. When an i is the last letter in an open syllable it says its own name. hi

  3. Today we will talk about the vowel unit that makes the /ī/ sound. igh says /ī/

  4. Here are some examples ofigh words. nigh high sight sigh night light fight might tight fright bright right flight plight slight blight

  5. spotlight brighten limelight twilight flashlight frighten insight highway delight highness nightmare

  6. Now we will talk about a couple of noisy vowel dipthongs. ou ow

  7. Here are some examples ofow words. owl how cow bow howl shower now fowl town gown brow down powder flower plow scowl

  9. Here are some examples ofou words. out south slouch our pound grouch ouch couch proud crouch round couch sound pouch flour scour

  11. This is the end of the phonics lesson for today. You will practice what you learned with an OA worksheet and an OE worksheet. They both have Magic Squares like the one we just did.

  12. Pronouns Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns. Pronouns keep you from using the same noun over and over again.

  13. Some pronouns take the place of a single person or thing. I he she it you Others take the place of plural nouns. we us they These pronouns are subject pronouns because they replace subject nouns.

  14. Ellie loves to swim. Owen learned to surf. She loves to swim. He learned to surf. Owen and Ellie went to the beach. They went to the beach. A wave crashed on the beach. It crashed on the beach.

  15. Pronouns can also be object pronouns and follow action words or words like to, at, from, with, and of. Here are a few of them. me you him her it us them

  16. A dolphin jumped the wave. A dolphin jumped it. Owen walked with Ellie. Owen walked with her. Owen and Ellie met up with Lily and Michael. Owen and Ellie met up with them. Anne drove to the beach with Ellie and Sheri. Anne drove to the beach with Ellie and me.

  17. Subject I she he they we Object me her him them us Notice that the pronouns in the left column are the same as the pronouns in the right column. I means the same as me. You would say, “I like you.” not “Me like you.” so When a person is added it can get confusing.

  18. Which sentence is correct? Will you go to the beach with Owen and I? or Will you go to the beach with Owen and me? If you are unsure you can say the sentence without the name and try both pronouns. Then decide which one makes sense. Will you go to the beach with Owen and I ? Will you go to the beach with Owen and me?

  19. When you are talking about yourself and another person, always put the other person first. Owen and me Ellie and I He and I Let's practice. Kim and (me/I) packed the car. Lily will ride with Kim and (me/I). She and (me/I) will take turns sitting in the back.
