The Hawaiian Islands are renowned for their unique biodiversity, boasting one of the highest rates of endemic species in the world. In fact, about 25% of Hawaii's reef species are found nowhere else. To safeguard these incredible organisms, the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument was established in 2006, covering over 139,797 square miles and housing over 7,000 marine species. Explore the wonders of these endemic species, from seaweeds to rare fish, and reflect on our responsibility to protect such unique forms of life for future generations.
