  2. What is Covered • Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships funded by extramural sources only. • Institutional Training grants • Predoctoral Fellowships • Other forms of student financial aid Covered Not Covered

  3. University Requirement • Applications routed through institutional representative • Handled by ERA like other sponsored projects

  4. Proposal Submission • All Postdoctoral Fellowship applications must be reviewed and endorsed through ERA and OSR • Application should be attached to a PDRF(SU-42FL routing form no longer used) • Disclosure of Financial Interests Related to Research form should be included • Proposals must be submitted to OSR five working days prior to submission deadline

  5. OSR Processing • Review proposal for compliance with sponsor and university requirements • Approve application in SERA system • Sign application • Provide OSR cover letter

  6. Applicant Responsibilities • Mailing • Photocopying • Scientific corroboration • Submitting protocols for Laboratory Animals and Human Subjects, if needed

  7. Limited Submission Programs • Some programs limit the number of applications submitted from a particular institution • Dean of Research Office serves as the selection committee coordinator • Dean of Research Office review and selection precede any ERA/OSR review

  8. Award Acceptance • OSR accepts and endorses fellowship awards • Fellowships are reviewed for acceptable terms and conditions • Required approvals for Human Subjects, Laboratory Animals and Biohazards need to be in place

  9. NIH Postdoctoral Fellowships (F32) • Can not be activated until Activation Notice and Payback agreement are mailed to NIH • Termination notice needs to be mailed to NIH upon conclusion of fellowship • NIH xTrain system can not be used for F32 fellowships

  10. Other NIH awards • Trainee appointments and termination notices can be submitted via xTrain for: • T32, T34, T35, T90, TL1, T15 • K12, KL2, KM1 Paper forms no longer allowed effective January 1, 2011.

  11. Required Training for NIH Applicants • Pertains to NIH NRSA F series fellowships • Applicants required to take hands-on grants.gov NRSA F series computer lab sessions • Applicants download actual application and receive assistance with grants.gov submission process Class no. ORA-1218 via STARS in AXESS

  12. Postaward Management • Review terms of the fellowship • Monitor to ensure only appropriate and allowable costs are charged • Most fellowships allow stipends • Be careful of stipend limitations! • Salary expenses generally unallowable on fellowships

  13. Fellowship Close-out • For NIH awards, ERA is responsible for ensuring termination notice is filed upon conclusion of fellowship • OSR close-out as they would other sponsored projects
