  2. Academic Programming • 11th to 12th grade need 170 credits • 10th to 11th grade need 110 credits • 9th to 10th grade need 55 credits • To graduate a student needs 230 credits

LAUSD Graduation RequirementsGeneral Overview • Need a minimum of 230 credits. • Class of 2006 & beyond must pass the California High School Exit Exam (CHSEE). • Must pass all minimum subject requirements • Any ‘D’ should be retaken if application to a 4-year college is desired (no credit will be earned). • Any Fail (‘F’) Should be made up over summer school.

LAUSD Graduation RequirementsGeneral Overview Continued • All electives are for the entire year. • (Do not plan on changing classes at 2nd semester.) • Any Class retaken where a ‘D’ was originally earned will not earn 5 credits for that class. • It is the responsibility of each student to be aware of all graduation requirements and their total number of credits.

LAUSD Graduation RequirementsGeneral Overview Continued • 12th graders • Must have a minimum of 200 credits on record to be enrolled in 4 periods. • Must have a minimum of 190 credits on record to be enrolled in 5 periods. • If taking less than 6 periods student must be enrolled in a college class or other class (proof of enrollment will be required).

LAUSD Graduation RequirementsEnglish • English 9 A/B or ESL 3/4 (9th grade) • English 10 A/B (10th grade) • American Literature (11th grade) • Contemporary Composition (11th grade) • Expository Composition (12th grade) • Writer’s Seminar (12th grade) • Students need a minimum of 40 credits. • Alternative courses include AP Literature & AP English Language

LAUSD Graduation RequirementsLaboratory Science • Life Science • Biology A/B • Physical Science (one year of the following) • Advanced Physical Science A/B • Chemistry A/B (needs to have taken or be enrolled in Algebra 2) • Physics (needs to have taken or be enrolled in Algebra 2) • Students need a minimum of 20 credits & • Students need to complete Life Science & Physical Science.

  13. LAUSD Graduation RequirementsPhysical Education - Life Skills - Health • Students need a minimum of 4 semesters (20 credits) of PE can have more. • Students need to complete Life Skills. • Students need to complete Health.

  15. 11th Grade Need to have a job with pay stubs prior to enrollment into Work Experience. Must have 6 periods at Taft; cannot leave early. Must work at least 3 school days. Must have approval from work experience coordinator prior to enrollment. Period(s) 7 and/or 8. 12th Grade Need to have a job with pay stubs prior to enrollment into Work Experience. Taft High SchoolWork Experience • It is the responsibility of the student to: • maintain one’s job, attend all meetings & complete all assignments.

  16. Taft High SchoolAcademically Enriched - Honors • Students must • Attend the AE/Honors class presentation, • Submit an application, • And be accepted by the AE/Honors selection committee to be enrolled in such course. • Scheduled dates to follow.

  17. Taft High SchoolAdvanced Placement • AP courses are demanding. Expect to have extensive reading and writing assignments. • Students enrolling in an AP class must: • Attend class presentation, fill out application. • And be selected by the selection committee. • Must commit to taking the AP test in May.

Honors & AP Meeting DatesAnnouncements as to specific dates and locations will be available one week prior to scheduled date in the counseling office.Dates are for 2004-2005 courses • English {April 12 & 13} • Science {April 14 & 15} • Foreign Language {April 16 & 23} • Social Studies {April 19 & 20} • Mathematics {April 21 & 22} • Electives {April 23 & 26} • It is the students’ responsibility to attend the meeting.

  23. To enroll in a Junior College course all students must have the concurrent enrollment form signed by the college counselor prior to enrolling in any college course. Students are required to submit their official (unopened) transcripts to the credit clerk in the counseling office.   24. Summer School • Any course grade of Fail needs to be made up during summer school. • It is the responsibility of the student to enroll in the appropriate course(s). • Summer school applications are available from students’ individual counselors.
