  3. Inferences • Making inferences basically is figuring out something that wasn’t completely explained in the story! • You use clues from the story to make a GOOD GUESS about what is happening and what will happen.

  4. When you are inferring… • You are using what you read AND what you already know to put the pieces together.

  6. With pictures • Without knowing much information, we are able to look at a picture and tell a story. • It is because we are making inferences. • Look at the following picture and use the questions for inferring to complete the story.

  7. Infer the meaning • What clues are in the picture? • How is the character(s) handling conflict/change? • What are the character’s(s’) actions? • How does the character(s) feel? What might the character be thinking? • What are my own experiences? • Now, write a summary of what is happening in this picture. Use what you see and what you have to add to the picture based on the clues.
