Vocabulary Review • Gametes: sex cells • Binary fission: Prokaryotic (bacteria) reproduce by making a copy of DNA. • Cell Cycle: a sequence of growth and division that a eukaryotic cell undergoes during its life time. • Mitosis: nucleus of a cell divides ensuring that each new cell receives a copy of every chromosome

  3. Alleles: variety of traits that genes come in • Homozygous: purebred condition with 2 matching alleles • Heterozygous: two different alleles for a trait. • Genotype: the combination of alleles • Phenotype: traits an organism displays

  4. Oral Review: • Name given to the study of how traits are passed from one generation to the next. • How many chromosomes does each human cell contain? • The gene for hairline in human codes for either a widow’s peak or a straight hairline . What are these variations in hairline referrer to as ?
