Collaborative Data Verification Projects: From Analysis to Presentation
Join a dynamic hands-on experience to master data verification methods using R and Excel. Participants will choose appropriate verification tools to address specific problems with datasets contributed from various projects, including SWFDP. Engage in teamwork to analyze real datasets focused on precipitation and temperature verification across different regions, including Africa and Asia. Conclude with presentations on your findings during the science workshop on Mar. 19. Access project details and datasets on the FTP site and enhance your analytical skills through collaborative learning.

Presentation Transcript
Goals and setup • Learn by doing – R and verification methods • Understanding – choose appropriate verification tools for your problem • Get some real results • Relevance – we have 7 datasets contributed, and a couple from the SWFDP project • Groups… • Analysis in either R or Excel • Prepare and present results (last day of the science workshop Mar. 19 • Full descriptions and data should be downloaded from FTP site
Project list • 1. Intercomparison of in situ and remote-sensed precipitation estimates • 2. “The great Africas cup” – ECMWF vs MOGREPS pcpn fcsts for African stations • 3. Max/min temperature verification for Sudan • 4. Precipitation verification for Sudan • 5. Indonesia wave heights verification • 6. India assessment of model forecasts for one cold wave and one heat wave • 7. Track verification for Typhoon Haiyan • 8. India ensemble seasonal rainfall forecast verification • 9. NCEP and ECMWF deterministic forecast verification for East Africa stations.
Group assignments for projects • Group 1: Rauniyar, Meka, Kashid, Chakravarthy • Group 2: Mbithi, Lipiki, Tadiwos, Ryan, Dube, Ratna (Laurie) • Group 3: Sultan, Nyamabu, Sharma, Matsudo • Group 4: Abdelfadil, Singh, Ebenebe, Nikitina • Group 5: Mujiasih, Srivastava, Prakash, Nguyen, Rana • Group 6: Mamgain, Das, Durai, Arora • Group 7: Carlos, Farinas, Jitarerat, Abhilash • Group 8: Acharya, Modali, Op, Kumar
What to do now… • Get together into your groups, meet each other • Get the folder called “Projects” from the ftp site. • The data supplier should describe his data and what he or she would like to do • Decide whether to use R or Excel to do the analyses
