  1. 5 Simple Tips to Care for Your Diesel Engine

  2. Care for Your Diesel Engine • While you can always take your diesel engine car to your trusted mechanic, it helps a lot to know how to care for it on a daily basis. • A simple maintenance routine will go along way to lowering repair costs and ensuring longevity of your diesel engine.

  3. To help you get started, Here are some Important Tips that you may Want to Take Note of:

  4. Invest in Quality Fuel • If you're using a poor-quality fuel, your injectors will suffer. Your car has four injectors. You'll know there may be a problem if they emit extremely black or white exhaust fumes or your engine produces knocking sounds. • If you'll be using cheap fuel, your injectors will be more vulnerable to damages. • And you will have to repair four injectors, which means four times the expenses, too.

  5. Look after Your Turbochargers • Your turbochargers help ensure good performance of your diesel. To take care of them, give your vehicle some idle time after starting it and before stepping on the gas pedal. • Allow oil to get to all areas of your engine first. When you're done driving, on the other hand, let the turbocharger cool down first. • Leave it for 20 seconds if you went for a short drive and about 2 minutes at least after a long drive.

  6. Change Your Diesel Oil and Filter Regularly • How often and how you use your vehicle affects the lifespan of your diesel engine oil. • The more you drive your vehicle, the more often you will need to change its oil. • You also need to look into your fuel filters and have them changed regularly as well.

  7. Keep Your Fuel Tank Full • Make it a habit to fill your tank, especially during the winter. • Before winter comes, be sure you have already replaced your filter. • Inspect your battery and alternator, too. When it is cold, avoid leaving your car for too long outdoors.

  8. Choose Your Diesel Coolant Carefully • Don't mix coolants or this will only damage your engine. Talk to your mechanic about the right coolant brand or type to use for your diesel engine. • In case you're out and stranded, use the coolant to disperse heat. If you have nothing else but water, you may also add it to your engine. • But note that this doesn't help the way an actual coolant can. So use a coolant as soon as you have access to it.
