  4. AYSO History • Started in 1964 in Torrance, California Provided an opportunity for anyone who wanted to play an opportunity to play • Pronounced “A” “Y” “S” “O” NOT “ASO”. Calling it “ASO” leaves out the most important letter and what it stands for “Youth” which is the main focus of the organization. • AYSO.org for all your coaching needs

  10. Zero Tolerance • We will not tolerate any abuse whatsoever of our Referees, Coaches, other Volunteers or family members. • And we will be even more protective of any Youth Volunteers and players.

  15. Team Management • Develop a Team Goal • Something other than a win-loss record • Skill level players should achieve • Improvement in overall game • Law knowledge • Etc. • Develop a Coaching Philosophy • Set appropriate expectations • Show respect to all players

  16. Team Management • Conduct a Parent’s Meeting • Obtain help • Assistant Coach • Team Coordinator • Assistant Referees • Field Coordinator • Explain your goals for the team and your coaching philosophy • Set the tone for the season right then and there.

Team Management • Conduct a Parent’s Meeting (cont.) • Set expectations for the parents as spectators and supporters for their children • Remind them that they are to encourage, but not coach (No more yelling “KICK IT” or “SEND IT”, or don’t let them move players around) • Remind them that the Referees are volunteers and we have a Zero Tolerance policy

Always have medical release forms or players cannot train! • Know what will be worked on prior to arriving • Have a plan to build up from a static drill to a game situation in the amount of time available • Dress appropriately to look like you’re prepared for session and to allow demonstration of skills being taught.
