  3. Simple application: • NSERC College & Community Innovation, Applied Research & Development (ARD) Level 1: • 2 page proposal • Final application = 15-24 pages • CVs and company documents extra • < 2 weeks to write • $25,000 for 6 month project

  4. Medium size application • NSERC ARD Levels 2 & 3 • 5 or 10 page proposal • Final application = 20-35 pages • CVs and company documents extra • 2-3 weeks to write • Up to $450,000 for 3 year project

  5. Medium size application • NSERC Applied Research & Development Levels 2 & 3 • 5 or 10 page proposal • 20-35 page application + CVs & company documents • 2-3 weeks to write • Up to $450,000 for 3 year project

  15. Section Guidelines 2. Background: Relate the proposal to current scientific, technical and commercial developments in the field, referring to the current literature and market conditions. Describe the background research on which the project is built.

Value of the results and relevance to the private sector: Describe the anticipatedvalue of the project results, highlighting the relevance to the private sector of the scientific or technical advances, or the innovative techniques, processes or products that will be developed or innovatively applied. Clearly identify how the work will benefitthe private sector partner(s) by showing how the outcome will address a current or future company or market need. To the extent possible, indicate the additional work the partners will have to do to exploit the results of the applied research for commercialization. Describe how the exploitation of the project results will benefit the Canadian economy within a reasonable time.

  20. 1. Synopsis:Medicine Hat College (MHC) was approached for the first time by the Whizzo Water Safety Company of Brooks, Alberta, to collaborate in the development of an inner tube life vest. Whizzo was attracted to MHC’s expertise and equipment for advanced manufacturing. • They will work with MHC to complete the design, prototyping and testing of a “green” life vest which reuses bicycle inner tubes in a quick-assembly portable format that builds upon their existing design. • The project will help the company engage the recreational boating market, while increasing MHC’s applied research exposure to watersports. This new knowledge and experience will attract and benefit future projects in this subject area.
