  1. Unit 7: Energy.Energy Resources. Law of Conservation of Energy: Energy is neither created or destroyed

  2. Unit 7: Energy.Energy Resources. Let’s try a problem from the study guide! 44) A 25 kg ball is at rest on a balcony on Earth that is 30 m high. A cat knocks the ball off of the balcony. After falling down 10 m, what is its kinetic energy? Hint: Use the Law of Conservation of Energy 25 kg Ball 30 m 20 m 10 m 0 m Answer: 2,450 J

  3. Unit 7: Energy.Energy Resources. ** In every energy conversion, some energy is always converted into thermal energy (because of friction)!

  4. Unit 7: Energy.Energy Resources. Where does all this energy come from?! Nonrenewable Resources: cannot be replace after they are used (or can only be replaced over thousands or millions of years) • Fossil fuels: Coal, petroleum, natural gas • Nuclear Energy

  5. Unit 7: Energy.Energy Resources. Where does all this energy come from?! Renewable Resources: can be used and replaced in nature over a relatively short period of time • Wind • Solar • Geothermal • Biomass • Water

  6. Unit 7: Energy.Energy Resources. Energy Poster & Debate (10 point summative) Your job is to work as a group and create a poster that shows why your energy resource is the best choice! You will be graded on… 1) Design (make it look pretty) 2) Explain how energy is produced from your resource 3) Highlight at least 3 ADVANTAGES! 4) On the back of your poster make notes on why your resource is better than the competitor! You will need this for your debate next class! Textbook pages 232-237 and Course Pack pages 41-54 are helpful
