  3. ALWAYS REMEMBER • How your thrower starts in the back of the ring is how they are going to end up in the front of the Ring!

  4. Girls VS. Boys • Though we teach the same technique for both girls and boys, they need different guidance. • Exception for every rule.

  5. Similarities, but Different • Positive reinforcement • Encouragement • Understanding • Motivation • Physical

  6. Holding the Discus • Smaller hands • May have to move to the front of the discus. • Index and middle finger closer together. • Thumb pressure is key.

  7. Lefties • Make conscious effort to go through correct motions. • Use the correct terminology for your left handed athletes.

  8. 360 Spins • We do 360 spins every day. • Have students turn both directions. • Put all of weight on turning foot. • Slow and Controlled

  9. 360 spins with Discus in Hand • Have athletes spin both directions. • Have them continually raise their arm to get them comfortable with it

  10. Back half spins • Start in the back of the ring • Swing foot to middle • Stop and evaluate the beginning.

  11. Back half spins • After there is a comfort level in doing half spins then swing foot back to starting position.

  12. Three Touch Drill • Works on getting foot to swing out. • Allows for athletes to get more time in the back of the ring. • Helps athlete to hit the middle of the ring.
