  3. Our Mission Statement The mission of Mrs. Gurian’s 2nd Graders is to learn Science, History, Writing, Math, and Reading by studying, trying our hardest, and never giving up… so that we will be prepared for 3rd GRADE, be SMART, and be the BEST that we can be.

Meet Mrs. Barbara Gurian GTE (Now Verizon) – 15 years… ending with a position in middle management as a Purchasing Agent Professional Educator – 18 years Calvin Hunsinger SED Center – 3 years Curtis Fundamental School – 5 years (4th-5th grade combo class) Plumb Elementary School – 11 years 4th Grade – 2 years 1st Grade – 4 years 2nd Grade – start of my 5th year

  11. Volunteers • MUST be registered – Paperwork available tonight! • Lend a helping hand – We Need YOU! • Work with students in the classroom • Field Trips • Work at home • Register your vehicle for field trips

  12. Adopt-a-Class • Very easy and beneficial way to help your child’s class • Donations of $150(+-) or more • Paper, computer software, books for class library, projects, field trips, etc. • Share the donation with several families • Ask your place of business (Tax deductable)

  13. Conferences • Conferences will be scheduled in the near future (after our baseline testing is completed). • Please sign the paper telling me your “best days and times” for you to conference with me. • A confirmation note/phone call will be made prior to the conference date.

  14. Student Portfolios • On-going documentation of accomplishments: • student work • data from assessments & expectations • goal setting • writing pieces • shared at Student-led conferences

  15. Textbook Policy • All textbooks provided by Pinellas County Schools • Math, Handwriting, Social Studies and Science workbooks are consumable • Hardcover books are to be used outside of the classroom when necessary and returned in good condition • Pay for any unreturned/damaged books

  16. Technology • Computers used daily in the classroom • Computer lab bi-weekly • Portable lab for projects. • Cassette players and LeapPads • Document camera & projector

Class Schedule 8:15-8:30 Unpack, prepare for the day, WPNN 8:35-9:05 Differentiated Instruction (School-wide) 9:05-10:00 Math 10:00-10:30 Science, Social Studies, and/or Health 10:30-11:05 PE ** Tuesday2:00- 2:45… Extended PE Day - Walking Day” PE will be at the end of the day. Students will be dismissed from the covered court. 11:10-11:40 LUNCH 11:40-12:00 Read Aloud with accountable talk (Handwriting) 12:00-1:45 Reading 1:45-2:45 Writing (Tuesday & Wednesday writing will occur in the morning.) Tuesdays… “Walking Day” PE will be at the end of the day. Students will be dismissed from the covered court. Computer Lab –Tuesdays 9:25-10:05 Art – Thursdays 1:50-2:30 Music – Mondays 10:25-11:05 (Mrs. Lance)

  19. Grading Policy 100-90 E (Excellent) 89-80 V (Very Good) 79-70 S (Satisfactory) 69-60 N (Needs Improvement) 59-0 U (Unsatisfactory) Please work with your child to help them correct errors on papers. This will help them review and master concepts rather than just skipping by them.

HomeworkAlthough homework may be different at times, our normal nightly schedule will be: Monday – Spelling & 30 minutes Reading Tuesday – Math & 30 minutes Reading Wednesday – ReadingAssignment(Test Friday) & 30 minutes Reading Thursday –Study Spelling (Test Friday) & 30 minutes Reading Students will be expected to read every day for 30 minutes. When they are capable of reading at a level 20 (Neon Green & higher), they will be expected to earn at least 10 Reading Counts points each month Monthly Reading Calendar should be turned in.

  22. Attendance Attendance is very important! Students need to be present and on time daily. Send a note (separate from the agenda book) to “excuse” absence.
