  6. Use of Calculators at P5 & P6 • AIMS • Widen the repertoire of teaching and learning approaches to include investigations and problems in authentic situations

  9. Students’ basic computational skills may be weakened • Concepts must be taught well first before the use of calculators • Remind pupils that basic computational skills are still important as it is required in Paper 1 Concerns Good Practices

  14. PSLE MATHEMATICS FORMAT since 2010 • Note : • Both papers will be scheduled on the same day with a break between the two papers. • Paper 1 comprises two booklets. The use of calculators is NOT allowed. • Paper 2 comprises one booklet. The use of calculators is allowed.

Estimated Time for doing Paper 1 (Use of Calculator is NOT allowed) Multiple Choice (Booklet A) 1-mark questions: 10 questions x 1 min = 10 min 2-mark questions: 5 questions x 2 min = 10 min Short Answer (Booklet B) 1-mark questions: 10 questions x 1 min = 10 min 2-mark questions: 5 questions x 2 min = 10 min Checking : 10 min Total time = 50 min 15

  16. Estimated Time for doing Paper 2 (Use of Calculator is allowed) Short-Answer 2-mark questions: 5 questions x 2 min = 10 min Structured and Long-Answer 3-mark, 4-mark, 5-mark questions : 13 questions x 6 min = 78 min Checking : 12 min Total time = 100 min (1h 40min)

  20. Getting Prepared • Day of PPs/SAs/PSLE • Have a good breakfast • Avoid solving Mathematics questions • Enjoy the paper – take it as a challenge
