  1. Understanding the words that matter in our life as a Christ-follower. 8 January 2012

  2. 1. LORD(kurios) Meaning: One who has POWERandAUTHORITY This word LORD has application to a MAN with POWER and AUTHORITY. Jesus assumed the title of LORD, which referred to the Old Testament names of God. God with power and authority - YAHWEH or JEHOVAH

  3. The Alot is BetterThan Youat Everything

  4. There is one grammatical mistake that I particularly enjoy encountering.  It has become almost fun for me to come across people who take the phrase "a lot" and condense it down into one word. Because when someone says "alot," this is what I imagine:

  5. The Alot is an imaginary creature that I made up to help me deal with my compulsive need to correct other people's grammar. It kind of looks like a cross between a bear, a yak and a pug. And it has provided hours of entertainment for me in a situation where I'd normally be left feeling angry and disillusioned with the world. For example, when I read the sentence "I care about this alot," this is what I imagine:

  6. Similarly, when someone says "alot of ___", I picture an Alot made out of whatever they are talking about.

  7. If someone says something like "I feel lonely alot" or "I'm angry alot," I'm going to imagine them standing there with an emo haircut, sharing their feelings with an Alot.

  8. The Alot is incredibly versatile.

  9. So the next time you are reading along and you see some guy ranting about how he is "alot better at swimming than Michael Phelps." Instead of getting angry, you can be like, "You're right!  Alots are known for their superior swimming capabilities."

  10. 2. SIN(hamartia) “Missing the MARK.” “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”Rom 3:23 Sin (singular) is a condition of the HEART, our inner-most being. SIN, our NORMAL condition, causes us to commit SINS! Sins are a consequence of sin!

  11. 3. LOVE(agape) Different words used in the Bible to express different kinds of love. Philia which translates as “friendship-type love”;eros pertaining to sexual passion; and there’s agape love which is one of the supreme attributes of God. Thisagape is from God, and expresses His love as a TOTALABSOLUTE. He is absolutely concerned to bring about the welfare of mankind.

  12. Will you commit to studying Words in the Bible in 2012 so that living as a Christ-follower will bring glory to Him?
