  1. Midwestern Student Health Collaboration Request for Proposal October 2009 Jonathan Eichten, Office of the Chancellor

  2. Core Student Health Insurance Program • Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) • Proposal called MHECare • 12 MHEC member states on committee (representing 1030 institutions)

  3. Fit with MnSCU system • Once established, MHECare will an option for our system at next RFP • Current system contract (United Healthcare) ends in 2011, but with annual review clause • Many possible scenarios; step one will be to compare MHECare with our current contract • Campuses may propose to be part of the soft mandatory pilot

  4. Some Key Issues • Affordability: Annual premium, copays, maximum annual coverage ($250K), quality of customer service • Mandatory with soft waivers • Optional coverages (vision, dental, athletics, and other); implications to pricing structure

  5. Timeline • RFP process Round 1 with December 2009 as target • Likely will be a Round 2 RFP • Target is to have a plan in place by August, 2010.
