  5. EQs & Objectives V: 0

  6. Marine Ecosystem V: 2 • With your shoulder partner, examine the food web of the marine ecosystem. • In your INB, write at least 3 observations.

  7. Marine Ecosystem V: 2 • With your table group, answer the two questions about the food web. • 1. Which organisms are producers in the marine food web? • 2. How do the producers obtain their energy? • 3. What would happen to the carnivores if pollution destroyed a significant number of the producers? • 4. Which organisms compete for the bluefish as a food source? • 5. Which organisms do you think are the most importnat in the food web? Why? • 6. Humans are most dependent on which organims? • 7. Which organism do all the other organisms rely on? • 8. Which organisms would be most affected if the mullet were removed from the food web?

  8. Marine Ecosystem V: 2 • Students will form a new group of four that has a student who has answered each question. • Students will share with their new group how they answered each question.

  9. Food Chain V: 0 • Food chains show how the energy in food is passed from one organism to another. • Note: The arrows indicate the direction of energy flow.

  10. Food Web V: 0 • A food web shows the movement of energy through an ecosystem, but there are many more relationships and interactions shown.

  11. Food Pyramid V: 0 • In an energy pyramid, • Show the transfer of energy from one level to the next

  12. Card Sort V: 2 • Freshwater Card Sort • With your table group, place the freshwater organism cards on the sheet of paper and create a food web. • Remember: The arrows show the direction of energy flow.

  13. Card Sort V: 2 • Freshwater Card Sort

  14. Exit Ticket V: 0 • How to…. Read a food web

  23. Reading V: 0 • Read: Relationships in Ecosystems • Cornell Notes: • - Predator • - Prey • - Herbivore • - Omnivore • - Carnivore • - Producer • - Consumer

  24. RM 11 V: 0 • Using RM 11, identify each organism as a predator, prey, herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, producer, or consumer.

  25. Ecosystem Relationships V: 0 • Use the table to identify relationships in each Ecosystem and answer the questions.

  26. Ecosystem Relationships V: 0 • Write a summary answering the questions. • Examples of ecosystems are… • Relationships within an ecosystem include… • Relationships in an ecosystem are important because…

  29. TEKS V: 0

  30. Vocabulary V: 0 • Competition • Biotic • Abiotic • Soil Composition • Temperature Ranges

  31. EQs & Objectives V: 0

  32. RM 11 V: 0 • Using RM 11, identify each organism as a predator, prey, herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, producer, or consumer.

  33. Relationship Videos • Duck • Shark • Tiger • Ant and Fungus • Louse • Tiger Leech • 10 Incredibly Dangerous Parasites

  34. Ecosystem Relationships V: 0 • Use the table to identify relationships in each Ecosystem and answer the questions.

  35. Food Collection Goal: Using your assigned utensil collect as much food as possible in the time allowed. Spoon: Fork: Hands: Forceps: Rules: • Food must be placed in your cup to count towards the total number of points. • You may only collect 1 piece of food at a time. • You many not take food out of other player’s cups or out of their hands. Point values for food are as follows: • Macaroni- 2 • Red beans- 1 • Black beans- 10 • Rice- 3

  36. Calculating Total Points • Calculate the total number of points you have. • Macaroni- 2 • Red beans- 1 • Black beans- 10 • Rice- 3 • Share your totals with your group, and record their totals in table 2. • Answer the questions under the table.

  37. Situation 2: FREEZE! There is a freeze, all macaroni dies! Macaroni is now worth ZERO points!

  38. Calculating Total Points • Calculate the total number of points you have. • Macaroni- 0 • Red beans- 1 • Black beans- 10 • Rice- 3 • Share your totals with your group, and record their totals in table 2. • Answer the questions under the table.

  39. Situation 3: Winter= Less Sunlight It is now winter and have to find food at night in the dark. Only problem: hands people cannot see at night! Hand-collectors must keep their eyes closed!

  40. Calculating Total Points • Calculate the total number of points you have. • Macaroni- 2 • Red beans- 1 • Black beans- 10 • Rice- 3 • Share your totals with your group, and record their totals in table 2. • Answer the questions under the table.

  41. Situation 4: Drought! There is a drought, and only rice and black beans survive as a food source. Red beans and macaroni will count as ZERO points.

  42. Calculating Total Points • Calculate the total number of points you have. • Macaroni- 2 • Red beans- 1 • Black beans- 10 • Rice- 3 • Share your totals with your group, and record their totals in table 2. • Answer the questions under the table.

  43. Video • Abiotic and Biotic Factors • Write definitions of abiotic and biotic factors as you watch video. • Reading: Biotic and Abiotic Factors

  44. Conclusion Questions Copy and Answer on Page 50 • List 3 abiotic factors in the competition game. • List 3 biotic factors in the competition game. • Describe how plants compete for light in the real world. • How would competition for water be different in the rainforest compared to the desert?

  45. Discussion Question • Maria planted 50 rose bushes in 100 square feet. Bobby planted 20 rose bushes in 100 square feet. Bobby’s rose bushes grew better. Explain why. • Soil Composition!

  46. Cougar Attack • You are a cougar on the prowl. • You have 30-seconds to collect as much food as you can!!! • Rules: • One card at a time. • Must walk!!! • Cannot turn them over!

  47. Cougar Attack • Count the number of kg you have collected. • If you have more than 50 kg, stand up. • Congrats- you are still alive!!! Woot! • It is now week 2, keep hunting! Go! • Repeat until a single champion cougar! Will it be you?
