  1. To First Grade!

  2. Hello! My name is Ms. Lane. It’s my pleasure to welcome your child as part of my classroom this year! I am so excited to be part of the first grade team at Creekview Elementary. It’s going to be a year filled with fun, learning, and new adventures.

  3. I am so glad you’re here! Parents are the most important part of their child’s education. I believe that home and school communication is critical for student success! Therefore, I encourage you to ask questions and become involved here at school!

  4. Arrival Students should arrive at school at 8:10. When students arrive they can go to breakfast. Our class meets in the cafeteria until rise and shine at 8:30. As soon as they enter the classroom they begin their morning work and routine.

  5. Dismissal Dismissal is at 3:50 pm. All transportation changes need to go through the front office.

  6. Snacks and Lunch Sign up genius for class snack. We will send home the water bottles on Friday or as needed. We eat lunch from 10:56--11:26 am. We will be in the cafeteria during that time. You can have lunch with your child on even days. Exceptions-birthday

  7. Birthdays You may send in a store bought special snack in the morning for your child’s birthday celebration at school. The treats need to be individually wrapped. Ice cream is a good option. You can buy it in the cafeteria. If your child has a summer birthday, we celebrate half birthdays.

  8. Our Classroom • Flexible Seating- This utilizes a variety of seating options. Students are able to pick seats that they feel are best for them. Studies have shown that kids are able to focus and complete their work more efficiently when they are more comfortable.

  9. Our Classroom • Flexible Seating empowers students to make good choices, to collaborate with classmates, promotes a positive classroom community, and encourages movement.

  10. Homework The only homework the students have is reading each night for 20 minutes. Practice sight words

  11. Reader’s Workshop We reach our reading goals through teaching your child in guided reading groups. Please look for their take home reader bag to be sent home weekly. The book inside might be a mix of your child’s independent reading level and instructional level and should be read nightly to reinforce what they are learning at school. The following slides show our reading goals for the year.

  12. Students should enter first grade reading on a level “C”

  13. Students should be reading on a level “F” by Christmas break

  14. Students should be reading on a level “I” by the end of first grade.

  15. How do we meet all student’s needs? • Formative assessments at the beginning of each unit. • Summative assessments at the end of units. • Small groups • Flexible groups in the grade level

  16. Writer’s Workshop During the school year, students will be working through the writing process to write, edit, revise, conference, and then publish a finished piece of writing in a variety of writing formats and purposes.
