  2. Objectives • Develop holistic national strategy • Environmentally sound • Occupationally healthy • Socially acceptable • Financially viable • Inclusive of all industrial sectors • Devise Short & medium term abatement • Establish information systems • Set up capacity building activities

  3. Case Study • Study will be based on ULAB • Strategy will be implemented • On a trial basis • In a partnership province • Under the leadership of MoEF

  4. Activities Desk Top Analysis • Lead - Supply and demand • ULAB sources – domestic/import • Recovery methodologies • Collection • Reconditioning • Recycling • Waste disposal

  5. Activities Multi-stakeholder Expert panel • Advise on national strategy for: • Sustainable recovery of ULAB • Appropriate strategy for ESM Trial of the strategy in designated area • Select an interested state or province • Set up Pilot Program to test strategy

  6. Activities Training Kit • Outline of ESM • Small lead recovery operations • Technologies and best practices • Specific sections to be devoted to: • Risks and hazards of lead recovery • Health and welfare of employees • Community outreach programs

  7. Activities Training & Capacity Building Workshops • Based on the Training Kits • Aimed at the small/medium recycler • Interactive and participative sessions • Provides examples of good ESM • Practical solutions to waste disposal • How to change work practices

  8. Activities Dissemination of Information • Information booklets / posters • Operating manuals • Site visits • Internet • Radio and television

  9. Outcomes • In the short term: • Awareness of problems • Improved working practices • Identification of strategic options • In the Long term: • Solutions for ESM will be devised • New technologies will be introduced • National Strategic Plan will be implemented
