  1. WELCOME PARENTS!!!OPEN HOUSE 09/26/19 Ms. Menendez Chemistry/Chemistry Honors

  2. CHEMISTRY • Chemistry is a think and apply kind of subject.  • Many times it’s the first-time students encounter this level of rigor.  • Math and science are incorporated in ways that the students may not be used to.

  3. Helpful Hints • Encourage students to keep up-to-date with assignments and studying. • It is recommended that they write down any questions or problems and get the answer next class from the teacher. Ask questions sooner than later, because later may be too late. • Remember the more they practice, the easier it gets, and  homework is practice. Chemistry is a cumulative subject, and  students are expected to be familiar with concepts studied earlier in the year. • Students have plenty of resources to help them in their mastery of the subject.

  5. Materials • Three ring binder • 2 dividers (Notes/Handouts and Lab Journal) • Notebook paper • Blue or black pens • Pencils with erasers • Set of colored pencils or markers • Scientific calculator Lab Fee: $5.00

  6. Textbook Chemistry Matter and Change McGraw-Hill

GRADING • Classwork and homework will be worth between a quarter percent to one full grade (0.25-1) grade, based on difficulty and length of assignments. • Quizzes will be worth two (2) grades.  • Labs will be worth two (2) grades. • Tests will be worth three (3)  grades. • A grade “Z” (0) will be given for all missing or past-due work. • Grading for any special projects or assignments will be disclosed on individual basis.     Test/Quizzes: Test and quiz dates will be announced several days in advance. There may also be an occasional unannounced or "pop" quiz

  8. GRADING • Grades will be computed according to Miami-Dade County Public School grading scale. A=90%-100% B=80%-89% C=70%-79% D=60%-69% F= 59% and below

  9. Classroom Expectations • BE RESPECTFUL- Show respect to teachers, students and property • BE PROMPT - Come to class on time and ready to learn. • BE PREPARED - Bring all required materials to class. • BE PRODUCTIVE - Complete assignments on time and to the best of your ability. • BE POSITIVE - Know that you can and will succeed in this class!
