  1. Past Simple tense How to form a Past Simple Tense S + V2 • Most past tense verbs end in –ed • Irregular verb have special past tense forms which must be memorized

  2. Use the Past Simple to describe action and situations started and finished at a specific time in the past. • The sentence often contains an adverb or adverb phrase of time, such as • - yesterday, the other day, • - last night, last week, • - three days ago, a few minutes ago, etc

  3. Example : • Last year, Ididn't travelto Korea. • Didyouhavedinner last night? • Shewashedher car yesterday.

  4. used to describe a habit which stopped in the past. • Example : • 1.When she was young, she danced beautifully. • 2. He played the violin when he was a child. • 3. We often went there.

  5. Past Continuous Tense How to form a Past Continuous Tense S + was/were + V.ing

  6. Past Continuous Tense • used for a continuous action happening at some time in the past. • Example : • At this time last week I was lying on the beach in Florida. • At 10 o’clock my friend was doing his homework. • Yesterday morning I was enjoying the weather.

  7. Use for a continuous action in the past which is interrupted by another action or a time : • Example : • When I got home yesterday, a cat was sitting on the roof. • How fast was she driving when she had the accident? • The boy was standing on the table when the principal came into the room.

  11. Past Perfect Continuous How to form a Past Perfect Continuous S + had been + V. ing

  12. Past Perfect Continuous • describe a past, ongoing action that was completed before some other past action • "For five minutes" and "for two weeks" are both durations which can be used with the Past Perfect Continuous.

  13. Example : • How long had you been waiting to get on the bus? • James had been teaching at the university for more than a year before he left for Asia. • You had been waiting there for more than two hours when she finally arrived.

  24. Present Perfect Continuous • Use to describes an action that began in the past, continues in the present, and may continues into future • "For five minutes," "for two weeks," and "since Tuesday" are all durations which can be used with the Present Perfect Continuous.
