  1. County commissioners and the Brown County Advisory Committee questioned the value of a new coalition and new activities with county tax dollars when there are already two funded projects in progress with which Brown Public Health is actively involved. • Brown County decided to join forces with Nicollet County and form a leadership coalition that will support implementation of SHIP interventions in both counties. • Standardize the improvement • 10 partners committed to participate in the coalition • Membership includes representation of each of the 4 SHIP sectors •  The Brown County Partnership Group convened on July 16, 2009 and approved the mission by August 1, 2009 by signing letters of commitment to the project. • The Partnership Group has completed the intial assigned activities and has recommended 7 persons to be on the Brown-Nicollet Leadership Coalition that will convene October 13, 2009. • Community partners are eager to work with Local Public Health • The Plan-Do-Study-Act process is valuable in quality improvement – it keeps the process on track and focused. STUDY PLAN DO Implement the plan Met with representatives from each of the 4 sectors of SHIP (schools, healthcare, worksites, community) Established a partnership with the New Ulm Medical Center Community Focus Committee Participated in Bridging Brown County— a network of civic and business leaders. Participated in the Heart of New Ulm project committee. Improve Relationships to Assist in Coalition Building Establish an Invested Local Partnership Problem Statement Brown County recognized the need for a collaborative, community-based investment to reduce obesity and tobacco use and exposure among residents. Aim Establish a Brown County Partnership Coalition focused on improving healthy behaviors of Brown County citizens by May 30, 2009 in order to improve nutrition, increase physical activity, reduce obesity, and reduce tobacco use. Measures Twelve partners formally commit to participate in the Brown County Partnership Coalition by June 1, 2009. Members of the Partnership Coalition represent each of the four sectors required by SHIP by June 1, 2009. The Brown County Partnership Coalition will initially convene by July 16, 2009. Members of the Partnership Coalition approve the mission and expected outcomes of the Coalition by August 1, 2009 Identify factors that impact the ability to recruit willing, active, expert coalition members ACT LESSONS LEARNED Brown County logo here
