This essential meeting will cover important details about practices, equipment pick-up, tryouts, and game schedules for various age divisions, including Bantam, Featherweight, Middleweight, Lightweight, and Heavyweight. Expect insights on player expectations, practice attendance, and how playing time is determined. We encourage parental involvement with volunteer opportunities during home games. New Parent Orientation Tackle Football
Tackle - Practices • Bantam – Westfield Community School, field on south side of building • Featherweight – Dundee Middle School • Middleweight – Lincoln Prairie Elementary School • Lightweights & Heavyweights – Jacobs HS
Tackle - Practices • Equipment Pick Up – July 15, Jacobs HS • Try outs – Week of July 16 (Monday – Thursday) • Shorts, Tee Shirt, Cleats • Conditioning – Week of July 23 • Shorts, Tee Shirt, Cleats, Helmet & Mouthpiece • Pads – Week of July 30 • All Pads • 5 nights a week until school starts • 3 nights after school starts
Tackle - Practices • Expect the kids to be at practice • Let Head Coach know if player cannot make practice and why ASAP • Homework NOT an excuse • May affect playing time in games if missing practice • Sunday teams may have additional practices or film sessions
Football Pads Where do these go? What else do you need?
Divisions • Bantam – 6,7,8 year olds under 90 lbs • Featherweight – 9&10 year olds under 100 lbs. • Middleweight – 11&12 year olds under 110 lbs. • Lightweight – 13&14 year olds under 125 lbs. • Heavyweight – 13&14 year olds unlimited weight • Get a ½ lb exception each week in to the season
Divisions Exceptions • Older-Lighter • A year older than the maximum age for Division • 20 lbs under max weight except Bantam is 30 lbs. • Younger-Heavier • At least a year under the minimum age • Gets 10 lbs over max weight as a Younger Heavier • 10-20 lbs over the max weight is a Striper • 20+ lbs over max weight is a Double Striper and an exception must be made by the TCYFL • Pac 10 (Saturday) only • Striper (Single or Double) • On the line between the tackles
Tackle - Teams • Multiple Teams for each Division • Competitive (Big 10) • Play on Sundays • Best 18 kids in the Division • Developmental (Pac 10) • Generally play on Saturdays • Draft balance of kids on to evenly dispersed teams • Every player has a starting position and plays at least half of the game
Grievances • Go to Head Coach • Go to Division Director • Contact the Board • Common problems? • Player in wrong position • Player not getting playing time • Perception of Coach being hard on player • Coach not calling right plays
Tackle - Games • Home Field • Sunday is generally at Jacobs HS • Saturday is at Sunset Park • Schedule • TCYFL sets them up – www.tcyfl.net • Sunday done prior to the season • Saturday done a bit slower • Sign up for TCYFL Alerts
Game Playing Time • Playing Time • Saturdays everyone plays at least ½ the game • Sundays everyone plays, time will vary • What can affect Playing Time? • Skill and maturity of the player • Missing practices • Disciplinary issues • From coaches • From parents
Game Day • Be at the field 1 ½ hours before the game for warm up • Weigh in at halftime of game prior • Volunteers Needed for Home Games • Field Marshall – Be there for game prior • Concessions – Be there for game prior • Spirit Wear – Be there for game prior • Scoreboard – During your game • Chain Gang (3) – During your game
Season • Scrimmage Weekend – August 18 & 19 • Opening Weekend – August 25 & 26 • 9 game regular season • Playoffs • Top 4 teams for each Division in the Conference • 3 Rounds • Super Bowl • Weekend of November 10 & 11
