  3. What is a newsletter? • A single page or multi-page printed document updating readers on past and future events and or other information such as offers. • Extended document.

  4. Reasons for a newsletter • Company newsletter for staff and customers updating on industry changes and products. • Barnsley College produce a health and wellbeing newsletter to promote healthy lifestyles in college. • The Mall produces a newsletter to promote their shopping mall and to give businesses a chance to promote their stores.

  5. Activity • Look at examples of newsletters and in pairs produce a list of contents and key features of the newsletter. (15 mins) • Newsletter link 1 • Newsletter link 2 • Examples are also on moodle, Unit 29 (newsletter folder)

  6. Features • Title • Issue number • Date • Logo • Images/Pictures • Different text sizes/fonts/text boxes • Colour • Articles • Bullet points • Sub-headings • Bold/Underline • Use multi-column layout – easier to read

  7. Assignment – Task 7 • Monika is also responsible for publishing the monthly “Windmill” newsletter. • This is to be distributed to both current and prospective customers. • It will have details of the successful events that have taken place and advertise those coming up. • It needs to include text, photographs, article and a chart to show results of the most popular drinks survey (spreadsheet available on Moodle) and a map to show how to find “The Windmill”. • The newsletter needs to be over at least three pages.

  8. Chart • You need to produce a chart based on data in the Windmill Beverages Type 2011 spreadsheet (in the newsletter folder on moodle). • Watch the following video on how to create a chart. Click this link • You now need to find a quiz on moodle, follow this link, to check what you have learnt.

  9. Over to you. • Create your own chart using the Beverages Type 2011 spreadsheet in the newsletter folder on moodle.
