  1. Final cut Pro • Filters, Effects, and Titles

  2. What’s this? In our timeline, this thin gray line helps dictate whether or not we want an Insert or Overwrite edit. I’ll explain... • Timeline: An important note • DRAGGING!

  3. Notice how the duration of the clip is grayed out, or filled in. When the duration of the clip is grayed out, or filled in, this indicates an OVERWRITE edit. The clip will be added to the time line on top of where ever you drag it. It will NOT effect other clips. There will also be a DOWN arrow. • Timeline: An important note • DRAGGING!

  4. Notice how the duration of the clip is outlined, or hollowed. When the duration of the clip is outlined, or hollowed out, this indicates an INSERT edit. The clip will be added to the timeline and push other clips back to make room for it. There will also be an arrow pointing RIGHT. • Timeline: An important note • DRAGGING!

  5. Insert/overwrite line With your clip and selection arrow above the line, you will make an INSERT edit. When it is placed below, you will make an OVERWRITE edit. Most edits are overwrite edits. • Timeline: An important note • DRAGGING!

  6. Playhead: Allows you to see where in your sequence you are positioned. Clicking and dragging will allow you to scrub your audio/video Clicking on the duration will make your playhead jump to where you click. • Timelines Odds and Ends

  7. What’s this? Very simply, this is your deselection space. Click here to deselect a clip • Timelines Odds and Ends

  8. Jump left next clip Advance right one frame Advance left one frame • Timelines Odds and Ends Jump right next clip

  9. If you can find transitions, you can find filters! • Make sure your clip is selected first!

  10. Located in the viewer, once you double click the clip • Use your filters tab to adjust the specifics of your effect

  11. You can view the changes the effects have in the canvas as long as your PLAYHEAD is on that clip!

  12. Located in the viewer, once you double click the clip • MOTION allows you to have control over the physical orientation of the clip. From it’s size, speed, viewable area, distortion, etc.

  13. You can view the changes the effects have in the canvas as long as your PLAYHEAD is on that clip!

  14. Located in the viewer, once you double click the clip • Text can be found in the VIEWER, as long as there is a video clip shown. It can not be accessed while you are working on filters or motion.

  15. Options and settings for your text is located in the CONTROL tab of the VIEWER.

  16. Text is never over black. It just looks that way because there is nothing behind it. That’s why when you move text over a clip, you can see both. And when you leave it in the timeline over nothing, you see black.
