  1. IMU BASICS FOR TYPE 4/5 MISSIONS LtCol Lee Henderson

  2. Overview This session provides an understanding of how the basic elements of the IMU can be used to conduct a simple ELT type mission. An assumption will be made that the class participants have basic computer usage skills and have installed the IMU on their computer. The class will provide detail and examples of each basic function, then will allow each participant to perform the functions on their own workstation.

  3. Housekeeping • To insure that all participants can get the most out of the training, please attempt to limit the background noise in your area, especially if you are using a speaker phone. • When asking a question, please include your name • You will need to be running the IMU on your workstation during this training session • We will see examples from the presenter • Each participant will enter using his/her wing data.

  4. INCIDENT TYPES • Type 5 • No more than 1 Operational Period • Maximum of 4 teams (air or ground combinations) • ICP staff of IC and optional MRO • USAF is only customer (ELT mission) • ICS forms not used (except for 211/218)

  5. INCIDENT TYPES • Type 4 • No more than 1 Operational Period • Maximum of 4 teams (air or ground combinations) • ICP staff of IC and optional MRO(s) • Only 1 customer • Some ICS forms used • ICS 201, ICS 202, ICS 211, ICS 218

  6. INCIDENT TYPES • Type 3 • May be more than 1 Operational Period • Full ICP staffing • May use remote Divisions/Staging Areas • Mission conducted using wing resources • All ICS forms used • May require Agency Liaison

  7. INCIDENT TYPES • Type 2 • May be more than 1 Operational Period • Full ICP staffing • May use remote Divisions/Staging Areas • Mission conducted using multiple wing resources • All ICS forms used • Is Incident Complex

  8. IMU • Functions can support Type 5 through Type 2 missions. • Complexity of mission requires knowledge of how to use more of the IMU modules • Type 4/5 Missions use the core elements of the IMU and become the foundation for further training

  9. SETUP – BASIC ELEMENTS • Selecting the wing • Installing the database • Selecting the network type • Entering the ICP location • Starting the IMU application

  10. Wing Selection • Once you have selected a wing, it will be the default wing unless you change it.

  11. SETUP – DATABASE • Each wing must decide how users will obtain a current wing database for the IMU. • Download from the WMU • requires registration and achievement of MRO or Section Chief (or higher) • Download from the Virtual Host • Requires knowledge of user name and password • Download from the LAN Host • Details obtained from ICP staff

  12. IMU DATABASE FROM HOST • Enter the IP address or URL into the URL or IP Address box • If the wing is using a special sub-folder on the host to point to the database folder from the default login location, this should be entered into the Folder or Path box (normally this is left blank). • Enter the FTP user name provided by the wing into the FTP User Name box. • Enter the FTP user password associated with the user name into the Password box. Click on the Save button to save this information. Saving the information will simplify the keystrokes to download the database again in the future. • Click on the Get Database From Host Site to cause the application to download your database from the host and install it into the correct IMUdb folder on your workstation. • During the download process, you will see a File Transfer Progress box showing you the status of the download. • When the download has completed, the progress box will disappear and a message will be displayed on the bottom of the IMU Setup box indicating that the operation has been completed. Click on the Cancel button to return to the main setup screen.

  13. Copy From Desktop to IMU • Only required if database was transferred using FTP • Several warning messages will appear

  14. Exercise • Copy the database that you have previously copied to your desktop to the IMU folder

  15. Logging Onto the IMU • Logon restricted to members holding MRO or Section Chief or higher • Also members who are already checked into any mission in the database

  16. OPENING THE MISSION • If you have previously opened a mission, the last mission will default. • To enter a new mission, just type the mission number • The dashes are optional • The mission number MUST correspond to the mission number from WMIRS • Click on the button next to the dates to enter dates in the correct format. • Check the correct ICS information selectors • The ICP should be the FAA airport identifier nearest to the ICP.

  17. Exercise • Open a new mission on your IMU • Mission Number is 08-T-9103 • AFRCC (USAF) • Search and Rescue • Opened now • Use other real information to complete

  18. RESOURCE CHECK-IN • Participants can be entered using either name or CAPID • CAPID is preferred if known • Required entries • Departed from (FAA identifier nearest) • Method of transportation • Aircraft check-in • Vehicle check-in • If ??? By qualification • Right click to see reason • Check CAP Checklist • Click and update if necessary (especially trainees)

  19. Exercise • Check yourself into the mission • Check a known MP into the mission with an aircraft tail number that you know the pilot is qualified in • Check a known MO into the mission • Check a known MS into the mission • Check a known GTL into the mission • Use a vehicle license (yours?) • Check a known GTM/UDF member into the mission

  20. TASKING ELEMENTS • Type 5 Mission taskings are simple and use the Air or Ground Operations forms • Click on the Tasking tab • Select New • CHANGE NAME to something meaningful • Use Search and Rescue for task type • Team type not important • Description of tasking • Click on Enter to save

  21. Exercise • Create 2 taskings • Air Sortie to locate the ELT • Ground Sortie to silence the ELT

  22. BUILDING THE CREW • Crews are assigned from the Planning Tab • Click on the Resources button • Select Teams tab • Select New Team from menu • Select Aircrew, Gnd Team, or UDF team • Select participant from list on right • Right click drag name to crew position • Aircrew Member I is MO • Aircrew Member II is MS
