  22. EXTENSION REFORMS • 7 District ATMA’s and SAMETI notified by State Government • 7 District SREP’s submitted to DAC during Dec 2010. • SEWP 2010-11 approved by DAC and 220.73 lakhs released to the State • Other Sanctioned Posts under consideration of State Government

  23. EXTENSION REFORMS – Activities • 5 Farms schools set up in Jaintia Hills • Crop Demonstrations programmes started • 1 Dy. Director deputed to SAMETI • Funds released to ATMA’s from SNO

BEST PRACTICES • HUB and SPOKE model of Horticulture development • 7 horti hubs established in each district and 4 new horti hubs at Mynkre, Sarangma, Mairang and Zigzak • New Fruit and Vegetable spokes in the pipeline • Mini Irrigation Check Dams – low capital investment, recharge ground water, generate labour employment, low cost etc.

NEW INITIATIVES • Inviting IRRI, Manila for capacity building of departmental officials including technology transfer for improvement of local Rice cultivars • Indo-Israel team to provide comprehensive consultancy for developing road map for commercial crops in the State • Scaling up production of Strawberry and Flowers through Special Plan Assistance(SPA) • 5 new Farmers market (Upper Shillong, Wahiajer, Dawki, Williamnagar and Chibinang)

Meghalaya Climate Change Action Plan • By GTZ in association with CITRAN Consulting • Action Plan being formulated for developing climate risk strategies in Agriculture • Strategies to address sectoral vulnerability on natural resources, adaptation opportunities and mitigation initiatives • Draft report prepared indentifying key sectoral priorities in agriculture sector

  32. CONSTRAINTS • Non availability of suitable Rice HYV for higher altitude region • Seed Certification Agency yet to be set up • Lack of scientific storage at village level
