The Faculty of Geosciences … was created in 2003 from a merger between the faculties of Earth Sciences and Spatial Sciences … has a leading international position in academic research into the Earth, sustainability, urbanisation and migration … aims to link academic research and everyday practice and to provide knowledge to government, industry and social institutions .. is the largest academic institute for geosciences in the Netherlands, with some 2200 students on five bachelor’s and twelve master’s programs

  11. Graduate School of Geosciences All master and PhD students participate in the Graduate School of Geosciences In the school there are professional masters (1 year) and research masters (2 years) Graduate School is responsible for the quality of the educational programme

The Faculty of Geosciences Many programmes (from Earth to Environmental Sciences, Human Geography to Innovation Management) Many programmes focussing directly or indirectly on sustainability Clear scientific orientation (writing articles) But also clear links to policy and practice In fact we focus on all aspects of global change Our faculty is everywhere...

Most of your lecturers are also researchers Many of them are often abroad and have wide international links In their research time they publish articles in international scientific journals Some of your lecturers can also be seen in the press Their research is often highly relevant in a social sense The lectures they give only represent a few percent of their total knowledge Most lecturers hate grading exams Most lecturers like good students

Less easy and less free than it used to be Less cheap, especially when the study takes too long But you chose a nice faculty You chose a programme that matters You will find nice co-students Nice and high-quality teachers will help you Always keep your enthusiasm, your eagerness to learn Try to make the best out of it: quality matters (especially in economically worse periods) Show yourself! Dare to ask and discuss! Plan your career!
