  1. I’M SO HAPPY TO MEET YOU! • Find your child’s seat. Welcome to Back to School Night! 2018-2019 Mrs. Coapman

  2. RSA – please consider joining! • Enhancements:Chromebook Carts! Outside eating area, outside tables and benches, iPads, playground equipment, landscaping, canopy shade structure for the big playground • Activities: Assemblies, Bingo Night, Running Club, Book Fair, BTS picnic, Spike Shop, Science Fair, Breakfast Buddies, Muffins with Mom etc.  • Why join? • membership dues pay for various enhancements in and around the building • there are a multitude of family friendly events that are offered throughout the year. 

  3. NOVEMBER CONFERENCES • We will use signupgenius.com for our November conferences. • signupgenuis.com will be ready on September 28th at 8:40 AM.

  4. WE ARE A NUT FREE CLASSROOM • No classroom snacks with nuts, peanuts or peanut butter. These foods are OK at lunchtime. • If your child eats peanut butter, or nuts for breakfast please wash hands with soap before arriving to school. • SNACK IS IMPORTANT! Please include your child in the decision making of having a snack every day.

  6. Our Super Spike program is about…. Improving classroom & school climate Increasing  preventive management Integrating academic & behavior initiatives Improving support for ALL STUDENTS Maximizing academic achievement

Welcome to 4th grade • One recess instead of two • Specials are 45 minutes long • Science and Social Studies every day • More independence expected • Missed work for instrument lessons – • Instrumental assembly is next week, for 3rd-6th grade, talk to your child about what instrument they would like to take

  8. Homework Policy • Check assignment book nightly (please sign it 1st marking period) • Please check the TAKE HOME FOLDER nightly • Empty the “TAKE OUT AND REVIEW” side nightly • Please do not empty any other folders out • Missed HW will be noted in Assignment Book

  9. Homework Requirements • Approximately 40 minutes per night • Usually includes: • Math • Reading IDR book (15-20 minutes) • Studying for quizzes/tests • Utilize Study Island, the Pearson Math site, First in Math, Reflex Math, Think Central and Typing Agent for extra practice • Please SIGN and RETURN all tests and quizzes

  10. STUDY SKILLS • Plan to study with your child • One week notice about tests/quizzes • S.S. and Science will have a Study Guide • Review a little each night • Review vocabulary, and notes • Make flash cards (we will do this some)

  11. Curriculum Math, Social Studies, Language Arts, Science

  12. Social Studies • PA history 1st marking period (field trip to Lenape Village Tuesday, Oct. 16th) • 2nd – 4th marking periods focus on USA by region. • Focus on teaching study skills • State Fair project (later on in school year)

  13. Language Arts • Journeys • Includes all areas of Language Arts • Whole group and small group instruction • IDR reading • Online component • www-k6.thinkcentral.com • studyisland.com • BOOK BOWL – Spring 2019

  14. Math • Building on 3rd grade skills • Basic facts MUST be memorized! Work on Facts for 6, 7, 8 • Online component through Pearson (check class webpage for link and logon information) • First in Math – build math skills • Reflex Math – drill and practice • www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

  15. Science • Three main units • Magnetism/Electricity • Animal Studies • Soils, Rocks and Landforms • STEM activities – will include throughout the year • We will switch for science during the 2nd marking period • Study Skills are important
