It’s Your Choice Choose one of three different course topics: Managing Hazards in Europe and the United States I and II Regulatory reform in the US and EU I and II Nation Building I and II Each course topic offers six credit hours of V450/V550 credit (two, 3 credit hour courses) Each course will admit 20-30 students Each student can choose only one course topic Classes: Monday–Friday morning 10:00-11:30, Monday–Thursday afternoons 1:00-2:30, no class on Friday afternoons, excursions on first three wednesdays

  20. Managing Hazards Managing Hazards in Europe and the United States I and II Faculty: John Graham, RagnarLofstedt, and Sweta Chakraborty comparison of how the United States and Europe cope with known or potential hazards to human health, safety and the environment. 

  21. Sweta Chakraborty, King’s College, is a 3rd year PhD student at the King’s Centre for Risk Management. She is interested in pharmaceutical and public health issues. RagnarLofstedt, King’s College, is Professor of Risk Management and Director of the King’s Centre for Risk Management, where he teaches and conducts research on risk communication and management. John Graham, Indiana University SPEA, has been Dean since 2008. Dean Graham is an expert in government reform, energy and the environment, and the future of the automobile in developing and developed countries. Managing Hazards

  22. Regulatory Reform Regulatory reform in the US and EU I and II Faculty: John Graham, RagnarLofstedt, John Morrall, Justin Ross examine how and why specific regulations were developed, and how well they performed in meeting the social objectives of efficiency and fairness.

  23. John Morrall, George Mason University, affiliated senior scholar at the Mercatus Center and an independent consultant specializing in regulatory impact analysis, benefit-cost analysis, and regulatory reform and oversight. Justin Ross, Indiana University SPEA, specializes in public economics, urban/regional economics, spatial econometrics, applied microeconomics, quantile regressions, public finance, political economy, and game theory.   24. Nation Building Nation Building I and II Faculty: John Graham, Laura Kelly, and Jennifer Brass foundational theory of state building, the difference between a nation and a state, the Roles a state plays, and recent attempts at state building.

  25. Laura Kelly, European Policy Director at ONE, leads development of European policy agenda, including trade and investment, innovative finance, and climate change. Extensive development policy experience in government, non-government and academic sectors. Jennifer Brass, Indiana University SPEA, specializes in African politics, NGOs, international development, comparative public administration, governance, civil society, and political economy of development.
