Why ISETCSC Day? • Acknowledge the support from NOAA, and show NOAA and the Community the Impact of the Funding from NOAA has on Research and Education at NCA&T • To highlight the accomplishments of the ISETCSC Center • To recognize our outstanding students • To recognize the ISETCSC faculty who made this accomplishment possible • To initiate the discussion on how to sustain this program and institutionalize the research and educational activities • Geosciences awards the fewest undergraduate degrees—less than 1 percent—of all of the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, according to the National Science Foundation’s recent report on Women, Minorities and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering (January 2009)- We are helping make a difference www.ncat.edu | Explore.   15. National impacts on students/workforce development- FISK -Initiating NOAA-relevant educational training at Fisk University; Helped increased the enrollment of minority students in STEM majors. Ten undergraduate students were supported to participate in NOAA-ISET research. FRESNO-NOAA-ISET funding has provided direct support for 9 Fresno State students and has indirectly supported an additional 29 students over the last four years. CUNY-Since the inception of the ISET program, 60 students have been impacted by the ISETCSC grant at CUNY. That includes 10 PhD (5 leveraged), 10 MS (2 leveraged), 21 BS (7 leveraged), and 19 high school students. ALASKA- As of October 9, 2010: 28 undergraduate students, 36 secondary science teachers, and 80 high school students have participated in NOAA-supported UAS Icefield to Ocean Watershed studies in southeast Alaska. ISETCSC-NAC meeting 11/1/10

Collaborations among partners • ISETCSC investigators received a $10 million NSF project on advancing the study of global climate change.- A collaboration between ISETCSC PI’s in Minnesota, NCSU and NCA&T. Thrust area II and III meeting in Minnesota • Student exchange between campuses:- Fisk undergraduates spending summer at NCA&T and Minnesota. NCA&T Students at CUNY • ISETCSC students from FRESNO, ALASKA, MINNESOTA and NCA&T at NOAA-ESRL • STUDENT Virtual meetings-creating an ISETCSC community of students www.ncat.edu | Explore. Discover.
