Organization and implementation of CountrySTAT Burkina CountrySTAT has been presented at several international and regional levels meetings of Statisticians and agricultural technicians in Africa : At the 19th Session of the African Commission on Agricultural Statistics in 2005 in Mozambique; At the 20th Session in 2007 in Algeria, where its implementation in member countries was recommended.

  9. Summary report of the progress of CountrySTAT activities in Burkina Faso We are in one step of a technical process that began during May 2008 at UEMOA headquarters in Burkina Faso. Indeed, it was during a workshop that we participated in our first training. We took this opportunity because we have been impressed by the deployment and use of the software.

Since that period of May 2008 a large number of activities was conducted. These are respectively the following:

Summary report of the progress of CountrySTAT activities in Burkina Faso • It was the first meeting of system presentation followed by a description of structures first generation CountrySTAT Burkina. • Twenty (20) national structures were identified as forming part of the core of first generation of CountrySTAT and in charge to learn and manage the tool.

KAFKAS Kaprazli from 14 to 17 December 2008. The objectives of the mission were : • Sensitize the authorities about the system countrysat and request their support for its implementations in Burkina Faso; • Meet the Technical Secretariat to discuss in pratice the implementation of the system and and the administrators of UEMOA; • To finalize the work plan and budget of the country stat system.

Summary report of the progress of CountrySTAT activities in Burkina Faso At the end of the training of national staff by the FAO technical team, a national expertise was formed so as to begin individual and collective trainings. The first training concerned the statistic producing structures (environment, health, transportation, weather, farms, fishing, education, population, economic, price, etc.) and the Agriculture and Food structures. The aim of the workshop was to provide participants with the necessary knowledge in the context of the implementation of CountryStat in Burkina Faso.

Px with Px Edit; Using FileZilla. The work took place in plenary and group with technical support from two FAO experts. During the training overcome the difficulties encountered at the end of november workshop.

Summary report of the progress of CountrySTAT activities in Burkina Faso This was an opportunity to benefit from the expertise of Mr. Lars Nordbäck during a training. 17 Senior statisticians and computer scientist from the National Institute of Statistics and Demography of Burkina Faso and the office in charge of Agricultural Statistics participated in the training on the PC-Axis family software.

  32. Summary report of the progress of CountrySTAT activities in Burkina Faso A major innovation introduced in the middle of the project was the calls conferences. An instrument of monitoring, exhortation, reminder of activity and especially sharing experiences of countries in the processus.

Summary report of the progress of CountrySTAT activities in Burkina Faso The deployment of the platform and the provision new version was made in the same time with activities following nationally : Exchanges around regular technical instructions and recommendation received from the Technical team of project; Discussions on problems after initial training and how to resolve problems of institutional focal points and groups.

  36. Data collection Taking advantage of training in January on CountryStat system, and PC-Axis family software, Some technical working groups were established. Every group contain an average 5 structures. Each structure was represented by two focal points.

  37. Data collection The collection of national and sub-national data on agricultural surveys, the national census on agriculture, population, etc… of the institutions in CountrySTAT Burkina is realized by the focal points.

  39. Converting files A part of the .px files was created during the initial training workshop in the month of January. Some of px. Files were created during the work in group . Finally the focal points have the responsibility to convert the files of their own institutions

  41. Data Validation The web site was update by the focal points. The data are already validated and there are available databases in various formats (EXCEL, SQL, ACCESS, SPSS, DBF, ETC.)

  43. Metadata Particular emphasis has been put in different meetings and work session on the meta data. The major party has been informed by the focal points During the harmonization workshop, the national coordinators by mail, phone asked and received the missing information or additional information.

  45. Publication On line The first publication is done by the focal points. It should be noted that FTP access has been configured for this purpose.

  47. Preparation of the official launch • Some dispositions were taken for the launch of CountryStat Burkina: • Workshop on harmonization of concepts and definitions; • Preparation of documents ( correspondence, speechwriting, program adoption, invite list, realization TDR of workshop.
