  7. Program Of Studies WPS High School Course Guide • Student, parent, counselor select what courses to take for the next 4 years. • Students should take the most rigorous courses available, based on college goals.

So What’s This About IB? • Did you know WPS is the only private school in Central Florida with an IB Curriculum? • Last year our graduates had an 79% pass rate on their IB exams. • Students can take ALL IB courses, SOME IB courses, or NO IB courses at WPS! • IB courses are similar in rigor to AP courses • IB courses don’t start until grade 11 • The IB Diploma Programme, offered at WPS is the most sought after high school diploma by the most selective colleges and universities • Guidance/college counselors will advise students on the courses that are best for them

  9. Contents: What does the Diploma Programme curriculum contain? The curriculum contains six subject groups and a core of three parts. Students study concurrently: • three subjects at higher level (240 hours each). • three subjects at standard level(150 hours each). • all three parts of the core. The IB Learner Profile and the core elements (TOK, CAS, and EE) are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Programme.

Research on the impact of IB programs Various studies have been conducted on the performance of IB students, the standards of the IB program, the effect of the implementation of the program on a school. Results show that: • IB students outperform their peers on state assessments • IB Diploma students have higher acceptance rates to colleges • IB Diploma students perform better in post-secondary education than their peers • IB standards are aligned with best practice in education and support effective teaching practices • IB has a positive impact on the culture of a school

  18. College Planning is EASY! • Grade 9 – SELF-ASSESSMENT : skills, interests and values through S4S. Take PSAT and ERB. Go on College field trips. • Grade 10 – EXPLORE : community service, leadership opportunities, school clubs, log on to CollegeBoard.com. Take PLAN (ACT) and PSAT (SAT) Go on College field trips • Grade 11 – TEST : take PSAT, ACT and SAT. Get involved and VISIT colleges with WPS and your parents • Grade 12 – APPLY to college and join our alumni who are going all over the world!

To prepare for college in 8th grade, students should… • Work on their GPA (numbers are important) – Remember the grades in your high school classes count (Math and Foreign Language) • Keep writing • Do well on CTP4 (ERB), EXPLORE and prepare to take the most rigorous courses • Get involved in clubs and volunteer activities! • Read, read, read (at least 20 minutes per day)

To prepare for college in 9thgrade, students should… • Work on GPA (numbers are important) – Remember the grades in your high school classes count (Math and Foreign Language) • Keep writing and reading • Do well on the PSAT and prepare to take the most rigorous courses • Get involved in clubs and volunteer activities! • Work on leadership projects, visit colleges and research schools • Manage your summer wisely!

To prepare for college in 10th grade, students should… • Continue to take the most rigorous course available- IB Diploma? • Work hard in your classes- grades matter!!! • Take the PLAN and the PSAT • Register for My College Quick Start • Get involved and stay in clubs and volunteer activities! • Work on leadership projects, visit colleges and research schools • Manage your summer wisely!

  22. To prepare for college in 11th grade, students should… • Do well in your classes. This is the last year colleges see before making an initial decision of admission. • Do well on the PSAT and prepare to take the ACT and SAT/ TOEFL • Take the Mock SAT/ ACT’s • Register for a test prep course • Take leadership roles in clubs and volunteer activities! • Visit Colleges and Universities, visit college counselors when they come to WPS • Work on your resume • International families bring back several official sealed transcripts. • Apply for leadership scholarships and programs • Manage your summer wisely!

To prepare for college in 12th grade, students should… • Retake the SAT/ACT if needed for college or scholarships • Beginning in August apply for College- the early bird get the worm! • Get your volunteer hours done! • Review your transcripts and sign off on them • Get letters of recommendations from teachers • Move your schools in Naviance from potential to active • Visit College representatives • Keep a strong senior course load • Fill out bright futures • Finish strong!!!!

This summer. . . • Begin clocking community service hours (they count toward Bright Futures Scholarship and graduation) • Take a summer school class to free up time to take study halls • Enjoy and learn from summer readings • Travel and study abroad • Visit colleges wherever you go • Have fun!
