  1. Resumes For Teachers The Easy way

  2. A resume for a teacher is not that different than writing a resume for any other situation.

  3. Remember • Keep it simple • Easy to read

  4. Formal vs. Informal • This is not the place to express your creativity – in the manner of style. • It is often interpreted as a lack of awareness of professional decorum. • The teaching field is very conservative – in general. • Veer from the usual at your OWN RISK.

  5. Checklist • Teaching philosophy • Cover Letter • Resume • References

  6. Teaching Philosophy There are five MILLION books and articles and web pages on how to write a good teaching philosophy. We do not have enough time to cover this here.

  7. Cover Letter • Stay focused. • Sell yourself. • Sound sincere • But not like you need to be medicated.

  8. Resume • Your career objective should be ONE sentence. • Some suggest leaving this part out. • Start with EDUCATION • Teaching Experience • or related work experience (like child care) • Special skills or training • Professional organizations • Personal Data: be careful with this one. • You might include a section here called “Other Experience” if your teaching experience is very, very thin. • References.

  9. References • Do NOT say “references available upon request” • Do provide complete contact information and title of your reference. • DO ASK YOUR REFERENCE AHEAD OF TIME. • The last thing your future employer wants to hear from a references is something like: “Oh, I didn’t know Katrina had put me as a reference.”
