  2. Early Life • Born on October 11th 1884 • One of 3 children to her parents • Was privately tutored as a child • Lived in Italy for a portion of her life • Returned to the United States to start a career

  3. What She Fought For • She fought for Women’s rights and was a huge supporter of pro- woman movements • Especially when she was first lady • The United States was in a time in which Women’s suffrage was already passed but women were looking for even more equality • Women wanted not just the right to vote, they wanted equal pay and work as men

  4. Women’s Rights Involvements • Eleanor fought for the increase in women involvement in the workplace • She also advocated for more involvement especially in the time of World War 2 • In 1942 she was advocating women to go and learn the main trades so they could be more involved in the workforce and so they could help support the total war effort

Involvements • In 1945, President Harry Truman appointed Eleanor to the United Nations general assembly • In 1946 she was named the first chairperson of the preliminary United Nations Commission on Human Rights • Significance of this is she was the first woman to be appointed to these groups and was much more involved than any women of her time

  6. Civil Rights Involvement • Fought for equal rights for everyone not just women but also minorities • Huge activist for equal rights and had a huge involvement in the movements • While she was first lady, she encouraged congress to pass laws to outlaw harmful things done to blacks

  7. Lasting Impact • Changed the role of women incredibly for the better and was a huge activist for the continuing of the promotion of more rights for women • Has been named one of the most influential American woman in the 20th century by many historians

Legacy • Left a huge legacy behind her • Created a lot of confidence for women after the paths she paved • Women as a result of her paths are now incredibly famous and have changed the world • She also changed how the first lady interacted with the public and how she was looked at by the Public

  9. Quote • “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” • This is important to women’s rights in particular because she is saying that women should not take the way they are treated • They must instead fight for there rights and fight for themselves
