Etc Learning agreement Questions Presented by celia

  2. Progress Team agreement finished Storyboards for 2 game ideas done Game engine nearly finalised – tested, researched multiple options Concept art begun for clouds – we think this is will be our idea, unless discussion today changes this Learning agreement begun Problems Torque as engine would be wonderful – except it costs $250 Also due to programming constraints – think will use game maker Plans Chose idea and begin to really start designing Finish learning agreement Questions Any one know of game engine that’s GUI based that’s better than game maker? Presented by cara

  3. Progress Learning agreement finished – just needs supervisor consultation Game engine comparison – GameMaker chosen as game engine Game play/narrative fleshed out a bit more – some possible level ideas/concepts, narrative possibilites Problems Message of the game – underpins the gameplay experience – narrative and avatar/player motivation is dependant on this Message underlying with narrative on top or message pushed throughout game Finding suitable meeting time Plans Defining our message Begin design of prototype and creation – interface, controls issues discussed More in depth timeline goals created Questions Narrative/message ideas Presented by david

  4. Progress Prototype begun - Sidescrolling working - Level timer Ableton Live and FL Studio looked at in regards to music Level ideas Central document zone created Problems Artists computer dead Plans Decide what are we going to build/put in prototype Develop prototype Finalise narrative/characters Level design for prototype Questions Im sure we’ll think of some after I save this… Presented by mitch

  5. Idea 1 Group of people find a magic lamp – all rub it at the same time Genie appears He has one wish, but only for one person Race around the world, winner gets the wish Genie gives the group special ability to jump/breathe underwater etc – but toxic fumes/gravity still fatal Race through world, different landscapes/environmental effects See other racers in background occasionally – do not explicitly race them Timed levels – improve, be faster At the end, player wins the race, is given one wish, but is standing in the middle of a dying earth – to use the wish to fix the planet is implicit Which countries/challenges – determined by genie Made obvious to player that this is earth – problems are exaggerated for effect –> set sometime in future (undecided whether to use futuristic cars etc – think this may take away from the ‘this is a concern right now’ effect) Player collects 3 or so items in a level – give information about country Idea 2 Humanoid aliens from another planet in ‘race around the galaxy’ earth – final destination Idea 3 Explicit ‘save the environment message’ Player is a superhero type, going round, saving the world Each level collect items that will fix the problem Idea 4 Collect pieces of object that grants a wish – pieces hidden around world Message implicit

  6. Progress Prototype objectives drafted Narrative written Prototype – moving cars, smog with limited duration, exhaust fumes – instant kill, high scores Some concept art produced Problems High scores – finding a cleaner way around the automatic ‘biggest number first’ problem – in game mechanic Plans Prototype level design draft created Prototype building continued Artworks/assets for prototype – what is needed etc – begun/discussed Questions Presented by daniel

  7. Progress Prototype level design Looked into animation – level/layer of images Prototype- wind , powerlines, moving cars/pictures in Concept art and some sprites Design doc – level list and features Problems Art - scope Plans Portfolio begun More art created Finalised level design – begin building Questions Size of portfolio Presented by david

  8. Progress Level game play, artwork and mechanic features plotted in game design doc More artwork Prototype level started being built Progress on second half of prototype level design Problems Not enough work being done during the week Plans Car artwork completed Car part of prototype nearly done – not polished yet Work on pitch Remember to attend lecture next week >.> Questions
