  2. Red Maple- Acer Rubrum • Characteristics: Simple leaf, opposite with serrated margins; dark slightly cracked bark • Range: Along Eastern United States • Height: 60-90 ft • Uses: Maple syrup, furniture, firewood

  3. Northern Red Oak- Quercusrubra • Characteristics: Bark-dark ridges with shiny stripes down the middle Leaves-alternate, simple, 7-9 lobes, 5-9 inches long • Height: 90 ft • Range: Eastern United States • Uses: Extremely important for timber; used in furniture, fence posts, and pulpwood.
