  2. Classification Definition: classification is putting things in organized groups. Examples: Kingdom, Phylum, Genus

  4. Vertebrates Vertebrates are the most advanced organisms on Earth. The traits that make all of the animals in this section special are their spinal cords, vertebrae, and notochords. It's all about having a series of nerves along your back (dorsal side). If you are an organism, you can't just have the nerves sitting there. You need to give those nerves support and protection. That need brings us to the backbones and a rod of cartilage called the notochord.

  6. Invertebrates • There are two basic groups of higher animals. They are vertebrates and invertebrates. While both have advanced through the processes of evolution, there is one fundamental difference. Invertebrates do not have backbones. Both groups are in the Kingdom Animalia, but their bodies are organized differently. What makes invertebrates different? All invertebrates share common traits. At the bottom of the invertebrate world are the sponges. Sometimes they don't fit in but they are still part of the group. Here's the nice and neat little list.

  9. Plant Classification • Plants are living organisms belonging to the kingdom Planate. They include familiar organisms such as trees, herbs, bushes, grasses.

  10. Vascular Plants • A plant which possesses a well-developed system of conducting tissue to transport water, mineral salts and sugars.

Non-vascular Plants • Nonvascular plants are the simplest of all land dwelling plants.  Like their closest ancestors, the green algae, they lack an internal means for water transportation.  They also do not produce seeds or flowers.  They generally only reach a height of one to two centimeters, because they lack the woody tissue necessary for support on land.

  16. Phloem • nutrient-carrying tissue of plant: one of the two main types of tissue in vascular plants, which conducts synthesized nutrients to all parts of the plant.
