  1. In the beginning there was no earth, sky or sea. • There was only confusion and darkness, called _________ • Chaos gave birth to Mother Earth also known as _______. • Gaea eventually gave birth to a son, Uranus, also known as ___ • Father Heaven.

  2. Mother Earth and Father Heaven had many children. • First, they had three monstrous sons. • Each had fifty heads and one hundred hands. • Hecatoncheires

  3. Lovely kids • Then, they had three sons. They were just as big and just as ugly • . They were Cyclops. They had one eye in the middle of their heads.

  4. Finally, they had the first gods, six sons and six daughters called. • The Titans

  5. Cronus • Among their children was the greatest Titan, ______ • Cronus got power from his dad,_____ • Uranus, by castrating him. • Then, Cronus became ruler over heaven and Earth • He married his sister ____, • Rhea. • From their union came the • Olympian gods.

  6. The Beginning-Cronus and RheaCronus is the second ruler of the world. Rhea is the goddess of vegetation. Cronus and Rhea were two of the original Titans… a group of mighty beings who ruled the world.

  7. Cronus • Cronus was so afraid to lose power • So one by one, Cronus swallowed his children; Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon. • For some reason he did not swallow Hermes • Maybe Hermes was too fast!!!

  8. When Rhea was pregnant with her sixth child, she thought of a plan. • She secretly gave birth to her sixth child, Zeus, and gave him to Mother Earth.

  9. Zeus Zeus was one of Cronus and Rhea’s children. Rhea pretended to give Cronus a child to eat, but it was really a stone. She took Zeus away and raised him secretly.

  10. Zeus Conquers Cronus The earth was almost torn apart by the dreadful battle, Zeus and his brothers and sisters won.  They punished the Titans except for 2 who helped.
