  2. LOUISIANA PURCHASE The Louisiana territory was purchased from France in 1803.The United States of America bought the territory for only 4 cents an acre. Soon after the troop set out.

  3. LEWIS AND CLARK :WHO THEY WHERE Lewis was a depressed man with many issues , a few years after the trip Lewis shot himself . Seaman ,his dog also committed suicide by starving himself. William Clark was a younger man, he was in the war He was a good friend of Thomas Jefferson.

  4. JEFFERSON’S GOALS • Make friends with the Native Americans • Explore the Western territory • Find new animal and plant species.

  5. SUPPLIES • Blankets • Telescopes • Handkerchiefs • 288 Knives • Pliers • Hatchets • Ivory combs • Silk ribbons And many more

  6. ROUTE OF EXPLORATION The crew started in Washington DC ,then traveled through Delaware , Maryland, Virginia , Pennsylvania , Ohio , West Virginia , Kentucky , Indiana , Illinois , Missouri , Kansas , Nebraska , Iowa , Dakota , Montana , Idaho , Washington , and finally Oregon.

  7. SACAGAWEA Sacagawea was a Native American women from the tribe Shoshoni . She was heavily pregnant . She had her baby on the trip . Sacagawea was a big help on board . She also gave birth to Jean Baptiste . Shoshoni warrior

  8. NEW DISCOVERIES:PLANTS AND ANIMALS The crew found new 178 plants and 122 animals , here are just a few: • Black Tailed Prairie Dog • Mountain Lion • Porcupine • River Otter • Common Monkey Flower • Golden Current • Common Juniper • Pin Cherry

  9. BEAR DOG Seaman was Meriwether Lewis’s dog, he was a huge black Newfoundland dog . He comforted the men on the journey . Seaman was an amazing hunter and a most loyal dog .

  10. FORT CLATSOP Fort Clatsop is the fort in which Lewis and Clark and their crew spent the Winter of 1805 . It was a harsh and cold Winter . It had only been dry 3 days . I have been there before .

  11. TRANSPORTATION Lewis and Clark used the following transportations to explore the West : • Keel boats • Large wooden canoes They also walked , climbed , rode horses, and pirogued ,the French word for pull boat.

  12. CONCLUSION Lewis and Clark finished the journey in two years four months and ten days time .They found many different animals and plants species . Only one person had died on the trip ,Charles Floyd.
