  16. Word Analysis-Compound Words • Remember: Compound words are made up of two words. • When you put two words together, they form a new word (with a new meaning) • Can you give some NEW examples of compound words?

  17. Literary Term/Academic Vocabulary dialect- a form of language spoken in a certain region or by a certain group of people. • Authors may use dialect to help the reader understand the character and setting.

  18. Story Structure/Academic Vocabulary rising action- the part leading up to solving the problem • In The Fox and the Grapes, we read that the fox attempts to reach the grapes but misses. Then he tries again, but they were still out of reach. I think this is the rising action before the fox decides to walk away.
