  2. Description The Houston toad has bumpy, sandy colored skin.Did you know the Houston toad eats bugs and other toads? The toad loves to be in nature and it always will.

  3. Threats • Loss of their habitat is the worst threat the Houston toad has faced. The invasion of the Red Fire ant makes it harder to ensure the long-term survival of the toad.

  4. Behavior • Tadpoles are nocturnal spending the day at the bottom of their pool or pond. At night the they feed at the surface.Houston toads have been endangered for 31years.

  5. Habitat • They like sandy soils and wooded areas. They are also in the coastal plains.It never lives far from water. The toad lives within the Post Oak Savannah vegetation area. Photo: Glen Mills TPWD

  6. How we’re helping • Since 1972, researchers at A and M University began studying things about the Houston toad such as it’s populations, biology, and ecology.
