  1. The Impact of Stress on Health Essay (AC 1) Stress is defined as the state when people are experiencing difficulties in coping with the situations they are in due to the lacking of abilities or knowledge to handle them (Anxiety UK, ND). These situations are often referred as stressors. The way how individuals are reacting to these stressors is referred as stress response. Stress does not directly causes infections or ill–health to a person. Instead, the products produced in the process of stress interfere with the usual operations of the immune system. Numerous studies have proved that stress has an immunosuppressive effect, which means the functions of the immune system is reduced when an individual is experience stress (Gross et al., 2008). Corticosteroids are initially...show more content... Major life changes such as getting married and getting pregnant due to the drastic change to the daily routines and in order to overcome these changes, the individuals might need to readjust their priorities and lifestyle. Another reason why major life changes cause stress is often these changes put individuals in situations that they might have less or no control of, for example, infertility and disabilities. Another common cause of stress is looking after relatives with long–term illnesses or disabilities. This type of stress is often chronic. If the carers provide constant high level of care, they are more likely to become ill or even disabled according to Carers UK (2012). This is because they often do not have enough rest and they may have given up their previous lifestyle to care for their relatives, therefore, they are more likely to experience stress and this may lead to depression and emotional breakdown. (AC 3) The General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) is a theory introduced by Hans Selye. There are behavioural, cognitive and physiological features in each stages of GAS. The physiological aspect of the individuals dominates the alarm stage. Due to the release of hormones such as adrenaline, they stimulate different changes in the body such as increase heart rate and blood pressure in preparation of the body to 'fight or flight' the situations. However, if the person cannot cope with the changes in their body, this could be fatal as it may cause shock or ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  2. The Impact of Social Media on Children Essay Social media is quickly evolving in front of our eyes and it is almost impossible to reject and hide from this new form of media. Not only is it an important part of socialization within peer groups but now it is used to market and motivate people to become a part of a larger community. It is undeniably changing the way one communicates and how one finds and shares information. Most websites offer communication through the use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and many various blog formats. With new apps on smartphones and photography and video made digital, media can be created, edited and shared quickly and once it is in this new digital cloud it is not yours anymore. Through these new advances in technology one can share things...show more content... Even though social media isn't only used for social interaction, it is an important aspect of adolescents' lives. Social media provides an avenue for them to stay connected with peers they have met through school, sports teams, church, etc (Ito, 2008). Social networking can also help shy adolescents have a more non–threatening way to interact with peers because they aren't interacting face–to–face (Rosen, 2011). It also provides an opportunity for teens to connect with others who share a similar interest (Ito, 2008). Social media sites can provide a place for adolescents to share their interests in art, music, games and blogs with others (Clark–Pearson, O'Keeffe, 2011). The teen years can be a challenging time, and social networks can be places for teens to turn to for support and advice when going through challenging experiences (Nielsen, 2009). Adolescents who use Facebook have been shown to demonstrate more "virtual empathy" (Rosen, 2011). Social networking can be a positive and somewhat easier way for adolescents to get to know and become accepting of others from "diverse backgrounds" (Clark–Pearson, O'Keeffe, 2011). As well as providing social support, social media sites can also provide medical support. Adolescents can easily and anonymously seek medical advice (Clark–Pearson, O'Keeffe, 2011). Children and adolescents are capable of impacting their communities and even the world in amazing ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  3. Essay on Human Impact on the Environment Human Impact on the Environment About three hundred years ago there was a definite spurt in the population of the human race. This was brought about with advancements in sanitation and technology, as well as a dramatic fall in the death rate. By around 1850 the world's population had grown to about 1 billion and by 1930 it had risen to 2 billion. The current figure is around 6 billion and at this rate the United Nations estimates the population will be at about 9 billion by 2054. This would be a 900% increase in just 200 years. This increase in population has meant that the world's resources have been put under a great strain in order to sustain the human race. But it has only been in recent...show more content... The culture of many forest–peoples has been destroyed and deforestation also affects the livelihoods of between 200 and 500 million people, who depend on the rainforest for their shelter and food. Deforestation may also lead to global climate imbalances. There is also a major problem when it comes to carbon storage. With the removal of the trees excessive carbon dioxide levels in the environment may lead to global warming, with many problematic side effects. While deforestation is now viewed as problem, historically it was considered to assist natural development and so now some countries rely on the rainforest for income and the problem will continue whilst they have no alternative. Another problem caused by humans is as a result of the increase in demand for extensive farming throughout the world. In order for crops to be grown trees have to be cut down and I have explained the effects of this already. As well as deforestation, agriculture has also called for the use of fertilisers and pesticides. Fertilisers (and raw sewage) cause eutrophication. Eutrophication occurs when farmers are forced to increase the productivity of their crops and so use fertilisers. These fertilisers run off the land into the waterways and increase the levels of nitrates and phosphates in the water. In turn this increases ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  4. Social media is any website that allows social interaction. Social media is growing rapidly throughout the world. More adults and teenagers are joining sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter to interact with friends, family, and strangers. The introduction of social media has changed the world in many ways. It affects each individual in different ways. Today it can be used as a very helpful tool in changing a person's life, but at the same time cause such conflicts which can negatively impact a person. While there are some negatives associated with social media, the positives in communication all around, has made the world stronger and a better place to live in. Social media has many positive effects on the society. The...show more content... Recent article even states that, "Facebook can also have a positive impact on young adults' lives by helping them be more empathetic" (Turgeon). Despite the positives, there are many negatives associated with social media. Using social media can make a person more vulnerable to predators and cyber bullying. In this age, "Cyber bulling is quite common, can occur to any young person online, and can cause profound psychosocial outcomes including depression, anxiety, severe isolation, and tragically suicide" ("American Academy of Pediatrics"). Cyber bullying impacts society in a negative way because it is harming young teenagers' minds. Bullies, torment, threat, harass, and even embarrass their victims by using different forms of social media. Using social media can also decrease privacy for an individual. People often give out their personal information not knowing who can see it. To average internet users, "A false sense of security may leave social networking site users vulnerable to security attacks such as hacking, leaking sensitive information, and sending viruses" ("ProCon"). Furthermore, Social media can also lead to brain disorders and can cause people to have a hard time interacting with people face to face. "Social networking entices people to spend more time online and less time talking to a person face to face." 5. Essay on Stress: Causes And Effects Stress: Causes and Effects Stress is an ongoing dilemma that occurs in each and everyone's life. It is a factor that is undoubtedly a part of daily living. Due to the trivial problems that occur in people's daily lives massive amounts of stress can arise. People perceive and manage stress in many different ways. The causes and effects of stress are numerous and one's ability to manage stress is vital in maintaining healthy living. First, stress is defined as an unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that they perceive as dangerous or threatening to their well being (Patel, 14). Stress is a universal feeling to everyone but the word stress means different things to...show more content... Stress affects the body in many different ways. Many doctors estimate that stress is involved in more than half of all illnesses (Sapolsky, 21). Stress may cause or prolong an illness or increase its severity. Epinephrine and norepinephrine are hormones that are released during a stress reaction that affect organs throughout the body. As a result from the hormones being secreted, the heart begins to beat more rapidly, muscle tension increases, blood pressure raises, and heavy breathing may occur. This reaction is known as the fight–or–flight response. The fight–or–flight response energizes the body to either confront or flee from a threat. Heredity, learning, and injuries all play a role in determining where or when a stress related illness may occur in a particular individual (Sapolsky, 22). Stress has been linked to many diseases or malady conditions. Stress hormones that act on the heart, blood vessels, and lungs may contribute to heart disease, high blood pressure, and asthma (Feldman, 17). Diseases of the stomach and intestines are often associated to stress because blood leaves these organs and moves to muscles used in running and fighting. Another difficulty is the prolonging increase of blood sugar can influence the development of diabetes. Stress also appears to influence the development of cancer. Chronic stress can also interfere with the body's immune system directly through hormonal changes. Glucocorticoids–a hormone ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  6. Cause And Effect Essay On Gun Violence Throughout the years, gun violence is increasing dramatically. Mass Shootings are becoming more frequent, suicides are now mostly caused by a gun to the head, and crimes are being involved with guns. Somehow minors and criminals are gaining firearms. The government isn't telling us the real story. They claim that they have very strict laws, well it turns out they don't. There are so many things that the government hides from the public's eye. Criminals get their way (hiding from the government) and they gain access to guns of their choosing. From pistols to machine guns, to rocket launchers. In this essay, I will explain to you how criminals are getting their way, causing so much gun violence across the United States, and how the government is doing nothing about this. Guns are given to people that are not allowed to have guns. How is this happening? Some purchases are legal, some are not, and those illegal deals pivot the playing field. "Likely that many guns on the black market got there via straw purchases – where a person purchases a gun from a dealer without disclosing that they're buying it for someone else" (Ingraham). This is important because it explains that they can get their guns from the black market secretly from the government or they can have someone else buy it for another. This also explains that the government is still blind even after placing "strict" laws, because of this many people are getting away with illegal purchases. Is this really what is causing ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  8. Most people believe that social messaging is more of a benefit than a consequence, but using social media can actually be harmful. Social media is something most kids, teens, and even some adults are using all the time. It has become a part of our generation's lives. Having people on their phones all day long is not only disappointing, but also damaging. Instead of talking to someone face–to– face and hanging out, people prefer just texting or going on a social network. For some people understanding a life without social media is near impossible. Using social media can have some adverse effects such as: it causes cyberbullying, it can compromise education, and it could have an effect on social skills. To begin with there are many...show more content... Cyberbullies have used this to their advantages by threatening people anonymously by calling them names or by sometimes by telling them to not show up at school, or to die and kill themselves. (Shah 1–2). This type of behavior is unacceptable because by bullies being able to go undercover people who might have been afraid to say something can now do so being without having to worry about being discovered. Social media is the key to all of these bullies, without the use of social media most of these bullies wouldn't even bother anybody. They would realize that they will most likely get caught or get into a fight. Most people are too afraid to do this. A second factor, social media could also have a huge effect on education. The use of social networks such as facebook and twitter are very well known, especially by most college students. David Gewirtz realized that some of the people who see a personal social media website could be a friend, potential employer, and even a stranger. Gewirtz warned most students to monitor what they are posting online. He says " You could be a teenager today who is 15 and say inappropriate things, and then as an adult looking for a job as a CEO." He is sending people a warning to monitor what they post because what is on that website might potentially ruin a chance of employment. (Michelle 1–2). 9. Cause And Effect Essay On Drug Addiction Drug Addiction: The Effects Nowadays, the amount of drug users is growing day by day. Unfortunately, these people are not aware of their vulnerability. Whether we talk about prescription, OTC or illegal drugs, the excessive use of these substances lead to considerably dangerous consequences; having health problems is the most well–known of them. However, drug abuse causes other serious effects on people such as money and job–related problems, likelihood to engage in criminal acts, and even potential death. People with drug issues are subject to money and job– related problems. When someone develops a dependence on drugs, they are not concerned about how much money they spend as long as they get the drugs they want. Consequently, people are faced with economic problems that might lead them to misery. Besides this, having a dependence on drugs can have a damaging effect on someone's job or career. The famous soccer player, Diego Maradona, is a living example of this. Maradona developed an addiction to cocaine, for which he was banned from soccer for 15 months in 1991 after testing positive for cocaine. After his comeback, at the 1994 World Cup in the United States, he was sent home for failing a drug test for ephedrine doping (Williams). Clearly, drugs only left an awful stain on Maradona's career. Those addicted to drugs are more likely to engage in criminal activity. There are three types of crimes related to drugs: use–related crimes, which occur because the drugs ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

Risk factors develop even more into different factors factor settings. Health Factors, Social or Environmental Factors, and Historical Factors. In Health factors they continue to deal with individuals "mental health conditions" (ASFP, 2017). Depression, Anxiety Disorder, and Schizophrenia compose as risk factors. Writer's Statement Thesis Statement: Climate change is natural; however, advances of human society such as deforestation, industrialization, and the burning of fossil fuels, have increased the rate at which the climate is changing. My three major sources stood out when writing my research paper on climate change. My main source was Louis Bergeron's, "The World Can be Powered by Alternative Energy, Using Today's Technology, in 20–40 Years, Says Stanford Researcher Mark Z. Jacobson." In this article, Bergeron describes an energy researcher's plan to power the world with renewables within the next few decades. 14. Cause And Effect Of Amazon Cause and Effects Many consumers go for what appears to be cheapest and most convenient. The reality is, Amazon's increasing dominance comes with high costs. "These consequences have gone largely unnoticed thanks to Amazon's remarkable invisibility and the way its tentacles have quietly extended their reach" (LaVecchia, 2016). It is vital that consumers are aware of this superpower that is taking over. Businesses Closing Online stores are growing in popularity and drawing attention. Because of this, other retail stores are losing that attention and business. Some major stores include Sears, Radio Shack, JCPenney, Macy's, Payless ShoeSource, Dillards and more. These are called brick–and–mortar stores. According to www.merriam–webster.com the definition of a brick–and– mortar store is, "a traditional business serving customers in a building as contrasted to an online business" (Brick–and–mortar, n.d.). "It's possible more than 8,600 brick–and–mortar stores will close their doors in 2017 (...) JCPenney announced plans to shutter 138 stores by July, Payless ShoeSource is closing hundreds of stores, and Macy's said it's shutting down 68 locations" (Wattles, 2017). What a shame to lose these resources and businesses, especially for those who support and appreciate the local retail option. Unemployment Increase There are far more effects than what might meet the consumer's eye as local businesses close their doors. For example, when the doors close on a department store, that leaves anywhere from one hundred to two hundred employees without a job. With 8,600 stores closing this year alone, that is upwards of 860,000 people unemployed. Those people have to go out and search for another job in a world that cannot meet that demand. Employment opportunities are shrinking in numbers because of the global online retailers. People have been led to believe that Amazon and other online retailers are creating a significant number of jobs that make up for closing businesses. That is far from the truth. Leon Kaye (2017) said, "It was estimated that Amazon employed over 145,000 people at the end of 2015. But, on the other hand approximately 295,000 jobs that have been lost at brick–and–mortar stores. ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

  15. Causes and Effects of Homelessness Essay Homelessness is a problem virtually every society suffers from. There are many things that cause people to become homeless, such as unemployment, relationship problems, and being evicted from ones domicile either by a landlord, friend or even a family member. However, with every cause there must be an effect. Some of the effects of one becoming homeless, besides the obvious change of lifestyle, are various health problems which often times may lead to death. Many people find themselves in a predicament when they are living with a partner and the two decide to go their separate ways. Some people may not be able afford the cost of living on just their income alone, so when two people terminate a relationship where one depends on the...show more content... There are many effects that a homeless person may suffer from. Other than the obvious change in the person's life style, such as the type and quality of clothing they wear or their mode of transportation, homeless people are subject to various health effects as well. In recent studies it has been found that one out of every three homeless people suffers from some sort of mental illness. The mental illness may have been the reason the person became homeless or they may have acquired the illness from living on the streets. When a person loses everything they have worked for it may affect them mentally. Another common effect that homeless people suffer from is Nutritional deficiency, better know as malnutrition. A homeless person's diet is considerably different than that of someone who is not homeless. Since they cannot afford to eat out or make a home cooked meal, they often have to dig in trash cans to find left over food from restaurants or other people. A lot of the food they eat is spoiled or rotten and is not healthy for them, but rotten food is better than no food. In addition homeless people are also subject to abuse, both physically and sexually. It is estimated that homeless females are twenty times more likely to be sexually assaulted than a female who is not homeless, and many of these crimes will go unreported as well. Most homeless people do not have family members or someone who will check up on them. So they might be abused or even ...Get more content on HelpWriting.Net...

Studies show higher rates of suicidal thoughts and behaviors with victims of cyberbullying, along with higher rates of depression, anxiety and paranoia (Gahagan, Vaterlaus & Frost, 2015). While cyberbullying can be both intentional or unintentional, it is a negative process which effects the victim. This includes comments, posts without consent and messages. The study conducted sought to determine the prevalence of cyberbullying among young adults and the negative outcomes through asking three questions. While cyberbullying continues to be an ongoing controversy, depression is steadily increasing among social media users. The truth is with every degree of increase in temperature a 100 more wildlife species are put in danger of extinction. Numerous experiments and studies prove that an increased level of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, is causing climate change and causing it fast. 2) Human Activities A) Burning of fossil fuels–This is the most prominent and deadly source of climate change. Burning of fossil fuels can release greenhouse gases ranging from carbon dioxide to ammonia. With massive industrialization currently going on, the amount of fossil fuels burned is increasing. Transport and heating are also major energy sources. Almost 7 giga tonnes of Carbon dioxide is emitted per year. In the U.K three–fourths of energy produced comes from fossil fuels. Mineral fuels like petroleum and coal are major sources of energy.
