  1. Travelling in Metro My first experience

  2. I for my entire life had never travelled in public transport. First it was my father who use to give me and my siblings pick and drop from school. When he got busy with his job, dad hired a driver and onwards it was my brothers who use to give me a ride. Things got different when I got a job at Ferozpur Road near Saroba Gardens. The route was very long and my brothers finally decided that I am mature enough to travel on my own. On the first day of the job, my brother dropped me at my office and asked me to come to his office when I get free. This was very difficult for me as I had never travelled in public transport or rickshaw.

  3. He suggested that I should use Metro Bus Service as it was the safest and direct way to reach his office as Metro station was just a few yards away from his office. First day on any job is hard and tiring, but this time it was particularly challenging. From the start of the day I was praying that everything goes well. Entire day I was worried and concerned about my trip back to my brother’s office. Finally I got free from office but the real challenge was yet to overcome. My colleague dropped me at Atari Saroba Station and guided me the process of buying ticket and taking the bus. My route was from Atari Saroba to Canal Station.

  4. I reluctantly climbed the stairs and went to ticket booth. I handed him Rs 100/- as I was not sure about Metro bus fares. Gentleman at the ticket booth handed a yellow coin (ticket) and my remaining balance. I did not even know how to use this yellow coin. Hesitantly, I followed the person in front of me and scanned the coin on the scanner to get the access to the bus station. I took the bus going towards Shadara Station as guided by my colleague. The bus station was neat and tidy with 3-4 helpers. After waiting for a few mins the bus arrived and very charismatically the doors of the bus station opened. I hurriedly boarded on bus thinking I might not get another. To my pleasant surprise I was wrong as bus comes after every 2 to 3 mins or maximum of 5 to 7 mins. A helper told me which door leads to ladies section of the bus. One must appreciate the staff at Metro Bus Station as they are very professional and helpful.

  5. I was lucky enough to get a seat. As I sat down, I started to pray that I reach my destination safely. I was reciting and was very nervous, the lady sitting next to me sensed this and told me to not to worry as Metro is very safe for ladies. However like all public transport service, travelers need to take care of their belongings and beware of pocket pickers. One of the best thing about the bus service is automated voice which informs the bus station we are about to reach.

  6. Finally I reached Canal Station and dramatically the doors opened and I headed on Canal Station. One of the helper guided me the way out to exit and I finally reached my brother’s office. Overall the trip was very good. The helpers and staff was courteous and professional. I was not expecting this sort of customer services from Govt. organization. It is safe for ladies as there is separate compartment for ladies. I noticed a lot of working ladies and female students travelling from Metro Bus Station. Afterwards, I started using the bus service on regular basis and was very happy and satisfied with it.
