  6. Why CAWS • Re-architect the Aviation Digital Data Service’s (ADDS) web site • Become an FAA Certified Qualified Internet Communication Provider (QICP) • Volume 3 chapter 7 section 3 paragraph 1441 of the Air Transportation Operations Inspector’s Handbook, Order 8400.10 states that if a Part 121 or 135 Operator obtains aviation weather or notices to airmen (NOTAM) data via the Public Internet, the operator must use an approved FAA Qualified Internet Communication Provider (QICP). • Provide increased scalability for current and future CAWS web services • Provide fault tolerance utilizing geographically separate service locations • Provide savings for the NWS/NCEP/AWC by consolidating some functions

  7. Scalability ADDS Server re-architected to gain greater scalability WEB-CONTENT-DATA-FILE-DB SERVICES Scalability achieved by separating the web services, content generation services, file services, data acquisition services and database services into separate computer systems. National Weather Service Consolidated Internet Farms
