  1. Monday, March 31, 2014 POTD Ms. Tyler bought 4 types of crayons. She bought 30 of each kind. She also purchased some markers, but bought 5 times as many markers as crayons. How many markers did Ms. Tyler buy?

  2. POTD Answer Ms. Tyler bought 4 types of crayons. She bought 30 of each kind. She also purchased some markers, but bought 5 times as many markers as crayons (this means the amount of markers is greater!!). How many markers did Ms. Tyler buy? 4 types of crayons x 30 each = 120 total crayons Crayons x 5 = markers so, 120 total crayons x 5 = 600 markers

Multiplication as Comparisons • Define the following terms • Factor • Product • Multiplicative Comparison is a situation in which one quantity is multiplied by a specified number to get another quantity. • compares two quantities by showing that one quantity is a specified number of times larger or smaller than the other • It helps to remember that the equal sign really means "is the same as." • EX: 4 groups of 7 • 4 x 7 is the same as 28. • 28 is the same as 4 x 7. • 28 is the same as 4 sets of 7. • 28 is 4 times as many as 7.
