Also fun to (in theory) to discover and learn about new lands. • Reasons not to explore… • Equator=death • The world if flat • Really expensive • Sea monsters

  3. The Mission… • How can I get to Asia quickly with a lot of goods to trade and sell? • 3 routes • Over land (The Silk Road) • Dangerous, Tedious, Tough terrain (deserts, mountains, etc.) • Around Africa • Westward around the world (Think PacMan)

What happened?Results of exploration • New trade across the world • Conflict among European countries • Columbian Exchange • Both sides trade diseases (Europeans caught Malaria and the Native Americans caught small pox) • To the New World • Horses, cows, guns, iron weapons • To Europe • Chocolate, maize (corn), tobacco, potatoes
