  2. Contents • Gantt chart. • What is the SCADA System. • Power System Simulator (PSS). • Remote Terminal Unit. • ISaGRAF. • Relays and Connections. • Cost Estimate. • Impact and Conclusion. • Demonstration.

  3. Project Objective To develop and implement a SCADA system to actuate some of the features of a power system simulator (PSS) and monitor most of its states.

  4. The Idea of The Project

  5. SCADA System • SCADA (Supervision Control and Data Aquisistion) is the general term for a large group of computer systems with special capabilities • Typically, it is used in industrial applications to control and supervise processes in real-time • In this project, it is used to control and supervise the generation, transmission and distribution of energy in the PSS

  6. Gantt Chart

  7. Term Objective • Completely understand the P.S.S setup. • Gain Programming Skills in : • SCADA • ISaGRAF • Set a budget for the project. • Simulate and implement the Generator section of the P.S.S

  8. The PSS

  9. P.S.S Circuitry

  10. P.S.S Aims • System analysis. • Set Control points. • Transducers to be used.

  11. Remote Terminal Unit

  12. RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) • Digital Electronic Device with the following three criteria • It has a programmable memory, to store instructions • Implements various functions such as: logic, sequencing, timing, counting and arithmetic functions • The various functions are used to control machines or processes

  13. Components of The RTU • Hardware • Digital inputs and outputs • Analog inputs and outputs • Communication Ports • Software • ISaGRAF • Function Block Diagram (FBD)

  14. Design Progress • Previously Achieved • P.S.S Analysis • ISaGRAF Workshop • DNP Workshop • AC Motor Control • Recently Achieved • Control points were located • Appropriate sensors and relays were chosen • Schematics of the P.S.S to RTU connections

  15. …Design Progress Control Points Sample:

  16. … Design Progress

  17. CostEstimate

  18. Project Approach • Understand the operation and the structure of the PSS • Understand the operation of the SCADA system • Define the points of control and supervisory • Choose the necessary equipments • Design and implement the automatic control system: • Install the needed equipments in the PSS • Program the RTU using the ISaGRAF program • Program the main computer using CITECT • Software and Hardware Development to satisfy project objectives.

  19. Achievements • Current Achievements • 3 sections of the P.S.S (Literature Review) • Set control points • Relevant sensors were specified • Planned Achievements • Feasibility study. • Motor control using ISaGRAF

  20. Impact • EE Students Learning (Computer Interface instead of manual control) • This Project offers the students the opportunity for hands-on experience in the widely spread technology (SCADA).
