Enhancing Environmental Management in Swine Production: ISO 14001 Implementation Projects
This project focuses on implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) based on ISO 14001 standards across six hog farms. Through funding from the EPA, key outcomes include the development of templates, SOPs, manuals, and checklists to streamline environmental compliance. On-site training was provided, and materials were translated into Spanish to ensure accessibility. Recognizing the time constraints of producers, we adapted materials to create "lighter" versions emphasizing Best Management Practices (BMPs) and user-friendly training tools. Highlights include resources for producers and assistance providers, showcasing environmental impacts and alternative technologies.
