  2. Richard Doll found the link between cigarette smoke and lung cancer He said if people remember him at all he wanted to people to think of how much he improved health

  3. He found that besides smoking, nickel, asbestos, gas production tars and radioactivity were major causes of cancer. He was usually paid about $1,500 a day

  4. He gave up driving at the age of 90 because his eyesight wasn’t good enough anymore enough though he still went to work daily He died at the age of 92

  5. In 1954 80% of British adults smoked, today that percentage has gone down to 26% In 2004 he said he would be willing to go to jail because of some new medical laws

  6. In 1950 he published his famous paper that talked about the link between cigarette smoke and cancer which he said was the outcome of a five year study. No one believed him so that study turned into a 50 year ordeal. He won over 25 major awards from the British medical association and the Royal society
